The Resident Evil franchise is one of the most popular franchises in the history of gaming, and so Resident Evil 9 is an inevitability. Capcom is focused on the Resident Evil 4 remake, Resident Evil Village DLC, and the multiplayer-oriented Resident Evil Re:Verse right now, but rumors indicate that RE9 is in active development at the company. It may be quite some time before fans get to see Resident Evil 9 in an official capacity, but in the meantime, they can check out a new concept video that imagines what the game could be like.
The video, created by Unreal Engine 5 YouTube channel TeaserPlay, shows longtime series protagonist Leon S. Kennedy walking around a cemetery. Before long, Leon finds himself surrounded by some of the Resident Evil franchise's most recognizable enemies. This includes Nemesis, Mr. X, Mendez from RE4, Jack Baker, and Albert Wesker. As these monstrosities approach Leon, he turns around and finds himself face to face with Lady Dimitrescu, one of the main antagonists of Resident Evil Village.
The actual Resident Evil 9 will almost certainly be nothing like this, of course. For one, it will most likely be built with the RE Engine instead of Unreal Engine. For two, it wouldn't make much sense for these Resident Evil villains to all be in the same place or working together. In the description of the video, TeaserPlay says that this is more of what a Resident Evil 9 DLC could be like, so maybe think of the concept as something non-canon, like the Re:Verse multiplayer game or The Mercenaries mode.
While Capcom has not announced Resident Evil 9 in an official capacity, there are rumors floating around online about what the game might entail. According to the latest leaks, Resident Evil 9 will have wendigo-style enemies for players to contend with. It will also reportedly be the end of the trilogy that started with Resident Evil 7, but fans should take this information with a massive grain of salt until Capcom itself reveals details.
Unfortunately, it will likely be quite some time before Capcom reveals official info about Resident Evil 9. News on Resident Evil 9 likely won't come until a while after the Resident Evil 4 remake launches, with that game's release date currently set for March 24, 2023. Capcom also tends to keep Resident Evil games secret until their release dates are relatively close, and so taking that into account, it will likely be years before RE9 is shown to the public.
Resident Evil 9 is rumored to be in development.
