In total, there are 32 Files scattered across Resident Evil 7, some of which are newspaper clippings, while others are important documents. Picking up all 32 isn’t too much of a chore, and will actually help you better understand what's going on in the game, and how it ties in with the overall Resident Evil lore. Collecting all 32 Files also unlocks "The Devil in the Details" Trophy/Achievement, for those 100% completionists out there.

While the Antique Coins and Mr Everywhere Bobbleheads dish out rewards for finding them all, locating all the Files might be even more important, as they fill in many of the game's story gaps and connect the Baker family, Mia, and Eveline to the wider Resident Evil universe. You also get a Trophy/Achievement for your troubles. Whether you're in it for the accolades or the lore, this guide has been updated with lots of pictures and descriptions to show you exactly where to find all Files in Resident Evil 7.
File Location 1
Name: Email from Mia.
Location: N/A.
How to get: Check your inventory at the start of the game and examine the file with a picture of Mia's face attached to it.
File Location 2 and 3
Name: List of Names (Front) and List of Names (Back).
Location: Guest House B1.
How to get: This File is on a table opposite Mia's cell in the Guest House. Make sure you turn it over and read the back to add both entries to your collection. You'll come here after going through the secret entrance in the fireplace.
File Location 4
Name: Home-Improvement Store Receipt.
Location: Dining Area (Main House 1F).
How to get: Look at the notes stuck to the wall on the northern side of the Dining Area.
File Location 5
Name: Newspaper Article - Missing People.
Location: Living Room (Main House 1F).
How to get: Check out the newspaper stack on the coffee table in the Living Room. This is the same place you get one of the three Dog Heads in Resident Evil 7.

Name: Newspaper Article - Over 20 Missing.
Location: Main Hall (Main House 1F).
How to get: Look at the table on the left of the shadow puzzle's location in the Main Hall.
File Location 7
Name: Jack's Journal.
Location: Recreation Room (Main House 2F).
How to get: Open the dresser drawer behind the bar, on the western side of the Recreation Room.
File Location 8
Name: Jack's Memo.
Location: Recreation Room (Main House 2F).
How to get: Go to the table at the back of the room to read this note. It's to the left of the Bobblehead and Antique Coin locations in this room.
File Location 9 and 10
Name: Travis' Memo (Front) and Travis' Memo (Back).
Location: Northeastern save room (Main House 1F).
How to get: Open the drawer beside the item chest in the northeastern save room of the Main House to get these two files — remember to read both sides. You'll come here naturally in the story after you solve the shadow puzzle, on your way down to the basement.

Name: Incinerator Room Memo.
Location: Incinerator Room (Processing Area B1).
How to get: Look at the note above the sink in the Incinerator Room of the Main House's basement to pick up this File.
File Location 12
Name: Memo About Relief.
Location: Grandma's Room (Main House 2F).
How to get: On the table under a broken mirror in the small Grandma's Room area of the Recreation Room — you need to get the Scorpion Key from the basement before you can enter. Make sure you also pick up the Broken Shotgun here, if you want to replace it with the real deal in the Main Hall to get the Shotgun in Resident Evil 7.

Name: Doctor's Letter.
Location: Grandma's Room (Main House 2F).
How to get: In the same room as File 12. Search the drawer to the left of the entrance.
File Location 14
Name: Zoe's Investigation Notes.
Location: Trailer in the Yard.
How to get: Look at the group of notes pinned on the wall on the east side of the trailer, near the Magnum in RE7. You need to find the three Dog Heads before you can leave the Main House and enter the trailer.

Name: Marguerite's Warning.
Location: Old House (1F).
How to get: This File is pinned beside the Crow door on the western side of the Old House. You need to solve the shadow puzzle before you can access this part of the house.
File Location 16
Name: Serum Documentation.
Location: Altar (Old House 2F).
How to get: Open the box in the Altar room of the old house after you get the Crow Key.
File Location 17
Name: Marguerite's Notebook.
Location: Altar (Old House 2F).
How to get: Walk north from the main altar area containing File 16 and look at the notebook on the dresser inside the small room at the end of this corridor. It's beside the piano.
File Location 18
Name: Memo on Deputy's Head.
Location: Trailer in the Yard.
How to get: Once you defeat Marguerite, return to the trailer and check the fridge after speaking with Lucas on the phone to add this (very gross) file to your collection.
File Location 19
Name: Lucas' Journal.
Location: Kid's Room (Main House 2F).
How to get: After you get the Snake Key from the Dissection Room, use it to open the Snake door into the Kid's Room and examine the journal on the left-hand side of the room to get this File.
File Location 20
Name: Torn Page From Journal.
Location: Kid's Room (Main House 2F).
How to get: In the same room as the last file — this one is under the broken mirror on the western side.
File Location 21
Name: Clock Memo.
Location: Master Bedroom (Main House 2F).
How to get: Use the Snake Key to enter the Master Bedroom on the second floor of the Main House and look at the note pinned to the globe by the clock, left of the bed.
File Location 22
Name: Memo on Burnt Corpse.
Location: Testing Area 2F.
How to get: Once you've defeated the huge Molded in the barn bit of the Testing Area, ride the elevator up and look at the memo stuck to the corpse sitting in a chair.

Name: Jim's Letter.
Location: Wrecked Ship 1F (As Mia).
How to get: Enter the dormitory with all the bunks on the east side of Wrecked Ship 1F and look at the bottom bunk in the northeastern corner of the room to find this File.
File Location 24
Name: Giovanni's Will.
Location: Wrecked Ship 1F (As Mia).
How to get: From the last File's location, turn around and go south into the next room and look at the table with a crate on it — the file is to the left of this crate.
File Location 25
Name: Orders.
Location: Ship 2F (As Mia).
How to get: You can get this File right after starting the VHS Tape as Mia. It's on a table in the room with the item box on Ship 2F.
File Location 26
Name: Tattered Secret Document.
Location: Wrecked Ship 3F (As Mia).
How to get: Look down at the box in the eastern corner of the room beside the save point area where you watched the VHS Tape.
File Location 27
Name: Mechanic's Memo.
Location: Elevator (Wrecked Ship 2F).
How to get: You need to get the Lug Wrench from the Cabin's Cabin first before you can open the hatch on the elevator and drop down to this memo's location. It's stuck on the wall beside where the Fuse goes.

Name: Email Log.
Location: Salt Mine.
How to get: Back as Ethan, now it's time to mop up the rest of the Files in Resident Evil 7. This first one is found by interacting with the laptop in the mine hideout up some stairs. It's the area with lots of pictures of Eveline in it.

Name:Infection Report.
Location: Salt Mine.
How to get: In the room just south of the last File, check the table near the entrance to find this File in amongst a pile of books.
File Location 30
Name: E-Necrotoxin Document.
Location: Salt Mine.
How to get: Examine the box in the middle of the same room as the last File. The note at the top is what you want to read here.
File Location 31
Name: R&D Report [1 of 2].
Location: Salt Mine.
How to get: On the southeastern side of the same room, look at the report on the desk with a pet carrier on it to find this penultimate File.
File Location 32
Name: R&D Report [2 of 2].
Location: Salt Mine.
How to get: The very last File in Resident Evil 7 is located in the same room as the last three, up the steps on the western side of the room. Once you pick it up, if you've been following along with this guide, you'll pop the "The Devil is in the Details" Trophy/Achievement.
