It seems as though the Resident Evil franchise may be bringing back Sheva Alomar. Resident Evil has a tendency of introducing new characters and abandoning them after one game, and that is exactly what happened with Sheva. A playable character in Resident Evil 5 alongside series mainstay Chris Redfield, Sheva hasn't had a major role in any Resident Evil game since.

While Sheva's character was praised by fans and critics alike at the time of Resident Evil 5's launch, she is still one of the more controversial characters in series history. Those that played through Resident Evil 5 in co-op with another human player probably have a much higher opinion of Sheva than someone that played through the game solo, as her AI leaves a lot to be desired. Infact, AI-controlled Sheva is considered by some fans to be one of the most annoying characters in the franchise, and so some may be surprised to learn that she may actually be making a comeback.

RE5 Remake Potential Co Op Issues
A Resident Evil 5 Remake Could Have a Lot More to Live Up to After Resident Evil Requiem's Reveal

Now that Resident Evil Requiem has been revealed, a remake of RE5 may potentially have a stumbling block on one particular front.

It was recently teased by Sheva Alomar actor Eva La Dare that she has "a few fun things lined up for March," a message accompanied by the Resident Evil 30th Anniversary hashtag. Some fans have already started speculating that the tease is for the announcement of a Resident Evil 5 remake, but the more likely explanation is that Sheva will be returning in one of the franchise's CG movies instead. Makoto Fukami, the writer of the Resident Evil: Vendetta and Resident Evil: Death Island CG movies, previously told Fangoria that he would like to do a movie with Sheva and Barry Burton as the main characters. He also teased that the movie would potentially take place in Antarctica, though it should be stressed that such a project hasn't actually been announced at the time of this writing.

Resident Evil 5 Remake is Reportedly NOT in the Works

AestheticGamer, aka Dusk Golem, a reliable Resident Evil series leaker, has indicated that a Resident Evil 5 remake is not currently in development. Instead, it's been claimed that the next two Resident Evil remakes are Resident Evil Zero and Code: Veronica. This doesn't mean that Resident Evil 5 won't get a remake eventually, but it definitely seems like Capcom's RE gaming slate is full for the next few years.

Resident Evil's 30th anniversary is on March 22, so franchise fans may want to mark their calendars accordingly.

In the more immediate future, Resident Evil fans can look forward to Resident Evil Requiem. Resident Evil Requiem is set to launch on February 27 and will see the return of Leon S. Kennedy as one of two playable protagonists alongside newcomer Grace Ashcroft. It's been theorized that Sherry Birkin may also be returning in the new game, but that has yet to be confirmed. It's highly unlikely Sheva will be in that game, though.

Since Sheva's divisiveness tends to stem from her AI and not so much her personality, it's quite possible that a CG movie will really help her character shine. In any case, Resident Evil fans will have to keep an eye on the franchise's 30th anniversary in March for more potential announcements.
