Capcom is scheduled to hold another Resident Evil   showcase later today at 3 pm PDT / 6 pm EDT / 11 pm BST, and while the announcement makes it clear that the upcoming Resident Evil Village  will be the primary focus (especially since it's due to launch next month in May), there will apparently be some other surprises. What these other announcements could be is anyone's guess, but it's speculated that there may very well be some kind of VR title, namely a VR version of Resident Evil 4.

The speculation comes from the fact that Chris Pruett, the director of content at Oculus, retweeted the recent teaser video for the showcase, which was initially spotted by TheGamer. This doesn't necessarily confirm anything but this can be read as Pruett directing his followers' attention towards the showcase, which would imply that something Oculus-related will be shown. And given the current success of the Oculus Quest 2 headset, which is used to play VR games, it's understandable why some would think that a VR game of some kind will be announced.

As for why Resident Evil 4 VR  is the go-to pick, that's for a couple of reasons. The obvious one is that Resident Evil 4  remains one of the most popular entries in the franchise, having been ported to multiple platforms since its initial GameCube release in 2005. It being ported to something like the Oculus Quest 2 almost seems like a no-brainer.

But there is also the fact that such a project may have already been leaked. Back in November, the notorious Capcom hack led to numerous unannounced projects being seemingly shared online. Among them was Resident Evil 4 VR, with it even specifically listed as being an Oculus exclusive. The leaked data can't be considered an official confirmation, and there is an argument to be made that any VR title announced at the showcase could be entirely original. But, at the same time, it's arguably just as likely that the project is indeed real.

Such a project could also tide fans over for the eventual Resident Evil 4 Remake, which is purportedly in development. While not officially announced by Capcom yet, it's widely believed to exist and almost felt guaranteed following the remakes of Resident Evil 2  and 3. However, sources claim that the remake is still years off from releasing and development has even had to start over due to internal conflicts concerning the game's direction.

For the time being, fans will probably be preoccupied with Resident Evil Village  once it releases. Not only is it continuing the story of Ethan from Resident Evil 7, series protagonist Chris is apparently serving as an antagonist this time, though most fans seem to be more interested in the vampiric Lady Dimitrescu.

Resident Evil 4  is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
