Resident Evil 4 Remake follows Leon S. Kennedy on his quest to locate the president's daughter, Ashley Graham, and rescue her from the clutches of an infected cult. Upon arriving at their destination, Leon and his escorts become separated, forcing Leon to continue the mission on his own.
Resident Evil 4 Remake is crawling with infected beings, all of whom seek to kill Leon the moment they set eyes on him. Thankfully, Leon came prepared for such encounters and can rely on his trusty Combat Knife and SG-09 R pistol to take these enemies down. While using certain firearms like the SG-09 R pistol, players might notice the '+1' text in the bottom right corner of the screen, but they might not know what it means.
What Does Plus 1 Ammo Mean?
While using the SG-09 R pistol, available from the beginning of Chapter 1, the player might notice the '+1' text in the bottom right corner of the screen. This basically means that they have a bonus bullet to fire because there was already a bullet in the firearm's chamber before Leon reloaded. This bullet can be fired alongside the newly added magazine without reloading, as it's already inside the chamber.
Put simply, if the gun Leon is currently using runs out of bullets, he will need to insert a new magazine, which will then transfer bullets into his gun's chamber. If Leon reloads after firing only a few of his newly reloaded bullets, the new magazine will replace all the bullets he fired while leaving the bullet from the previous magazine in the chamber, which with then cause the '+1' text to appear in the bottom right corner of the screen.
It may sound a little complicated at first, but the amount of ammo Leon has in his possession does not change unless he fires or obtains bullets during his journey. The '+1' text is simply incorporated into Resident Evil 4 Remake to enhance the realism of how certain firearms work in real life.
Not all guns available in Resident Evil 4 Remake make use of the +1 Ammo feature as, in real life, it just wouldn't work. Guns that require bullets to be placed directly into their chambers will only ever have bullets resting inside their chambers, so such weapons can't feature the '+1' text.
How to Get More Ammo in Resident Evil 4 Remake
While exploring the world of Resident Evil 4 Remake, players will be able to find and acquire ammo by investigating different locations and locating ammo scattered throughout each area or by taking down enemies. For those who have obtained enough Gun Powder and Resources, ammunition can be manually created via the crafting menu.
Upgrading a weapon's capacity in the Tune Up menu while interacting with the Merchant will allow the player to carry even more ammo than they could before, while also unlocking the My Preferred Piece achievement. All upgrades will carry over on New Game+, so players should ensure to acquire as many as they can at some point during their first playthrough if they wish to make the most out of them later.
Resident Evil 4 Remake is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
