Capcom has revealed that the Resident Evil 4 remake has already passed 4 million units sold, making it the second fastest-selling game in the franchise to date. There was a great deal of hype behind the Resident Evil 4 remake in the months leading up to its release, with many agreeing that it lived up to fans' lofty expectations.The Resident Evil 4 remake continues a hot streak for Capcom, with the company consistently putting out well-reviewed games with strong sales to back them up. The only Resident Evil game that has it beat is Resident Evil 6, despite the fact that RE6 is generally considered to be the worst main series games by many fans.

Resident Evil 6 sold 4.5 million units in the same timeframe, putting it just slightly ahead of the Resident Evil 4 remake. However, there's a good chance that the Resident Evil 4 remake will pull ahead of Resident Evil 6 in the long run. The Resident Evil 4 remake has been warmly embraced by fans and is being hailed as one of the best game releases of the year, whereas Resident Evil 6 was not nearly as well-received.

Time will tell if the Resident Evil 4 remake is able to topple Resident Evil 6. However, Capcom may be able to draw more people to the remake if it continues to release updates for it that enhance the experience and add new content. Just recently, Capcom released The Mercenaries update for the Resident Evil 4 remake, giving fans the chance to experience a new version of the fan favorite bonus game mode.

Then again, some updates may have the opposite effect and turn fans away from the Resident Evil 4 remake. For example, Capcom recently introduced controversial microtransactions to the Resident Evil 4 remake, which may not sit right with everyone. Regardless, the Resident Evil 4 remake is off to a hot start, and it will be interesting to see if it is able to keep its momentum going strong.
