In the Resident Evil 4 remake, Rhinoceros Beetle is a rare collectible in the form of an insect. It is often sitting on walls or trees and doesn’t move. The player can either sell Rhinoceros Beetles for 10,000 Ptas each or eat them for an HP boost.

In total, there are only 3 Rhinoceros Beetles in the entire campaign of the RE4 remake, which is why many players fail to collect all. The collectible is so rare that some consider it the hardest to find—followed by the Clockwork Castellans.

Where to Find All Rhinoceros Beetles in RE4 Remake

There is one Rhinoceros Beetle in every stage of the game: One in the Village, one in the Castle, and one on the Island. But none of them show up on the map, even with the treasure map unlocked; the player will only see the “pick up” button when they get close to the collectible. With that in mind, here’s where to get all three Rhinoceros Beetles.

  • Rhinoceros Beetle #1: Lake Settlement (Village)

The first bug is at the Lake Settlement, where the player finds Luis Serra. It’s to the south of his cabin, near the wrecked boat. Luckily, the player has two chances to pick up this treasure: Once in Chapter 1—before saving Luis—and another in Chapter 4—after defeating the lake monster, Del Lago.

  • Rhinoceros Beetle #2: The Fountain (Castle)

In Chapter 8, after Ashley runs away at the Castle, the player can find the second Rhinoceros Beetle on the wall behind the fountain. The fountain is next to the Merchant’s site south of the Wine Cellar. Jump into the water and investigate the wall behind it to find the bug.

  • Rhinoceros Beetle #3: The Ruins (Island)

The third treasure insect shows up just after the Krauser’s fight on the Island near the Ruins. In Chapter 14 and after the cutscene, the player should take a few steps back and grab the Rhinoceros Beetle sitting on the stone. Most players miss this one because Krauser attacks them at the scene. (But there is enough time to pick up the bug and leave the area before he comes.)

What to Do with the Rhinoceros Beetles

Getting one Rhinoceros Beetle unlocks the bug’s model at the Extra Content Shop. But this collectible has two other uses: It can be sold to the Merchant for 10,000 Ptas or eaten for a permanent HP boost—like yellow herbs.

Equip the Rhino Beetle case charm before selling the bugs to double their prices. And do not consume them because plenty of yellow herbs are already there to maximize Leon’s health bar.

The Resident Evil 4 remake is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
