Capcom's latest remake, Resident Evil 4, is proving once again to be a smash hit for the Japanese company. Already a beloved entry in the popular horror franchise, Resident Evil 4 Remake is already outpacing sales of the original GameCube version, though this newer one does have the advantage of being a multiplatform title at launch. Originally, Resident Evil 4 started out life as a GameCube exclusive, before eventually being ported and remade on other platforms like PlayStation 2 and Wii.

While the core of the experience remains the same, Capcom has taken the opportunity with this remake to revise and improve certain sections, while also adding more context in other areas. Outside of the switch to the visually impressive RE Engine as well as modernized control and combat mechanics, Capcom has completely redesigned and improved other sections of the game including a new version of a boss fight against Jack Krauser.

Resident Evil 4 Remake adds a bit of customization into the game through the various charms that Leon can equip for his Attache Case. Better yet, each charm offers a passive bonus that impacts a variety of stats including lowering prices, increasing health effectiveness, improving run speed, and much more. Here is everything to know about charms.

Players can impact their Resident Evil 4 runs by utilizing charms, little trinkets that can be attached to Leon's Attache Case. While the game features plenty of different passive bonuses through these charms, players can attach them when interacting with the typewriter. However, before anything can be applied, players will need to unlock them by winning them as a prize from the various shooting ranges.

Players will get their first opportunity to use the Merchant's shooting range by visiting their big shop in Chapter 3 after passing through the Quarry. Use the elevator to the right of the Merchant to be taken down to the shooting range and start completing challenges there. The highest scores can be achieved by unlocking a bonus round after completing extra conditions, and each range in the game comes with its own challenges. Use dynamite to hit all targets at once.

Finishing challenges and hitting skulls will earn players Tokens in the form of Bronze, Silver, and Gold. These can be used at the Vending Machine by using three of any type. Also, starting in Chapter 11, players can purchase Gold Tokens from the merchant in exchange for a rarer currency called Spinel.

Types of Charms

Charms are broken down into various rarity tiers as well as four different categories. Players can influence the rarity of a charm by using Gold, Silver, and Bronze level tokens, with 3 gold tokens providing the best chance at a legendary charm.

In terms of passive bonuses, players can get one of four categories:

  • Combat Charms - Improved effects and bonuses when in combat with enemies such as boosting critical hit rate or Leon's run speed.
  • Merchant Discount Charms - As expected, these help players save money when interacting with the Merchant, with reductions in repair and upgrade prices or providing better selling prices. Considering that typewriters are usually located near the merchant, savvy players can swap these onto the case before interacting with the NPC, and then swapping them back out for other ones before heading back out into the field.
  • Healing Bonus Charms - Provide improved healing effects for the various items Leon can eat like Green Herbs, fish, and more.
  • Crafting Bonus Charms - Adds frequency to crafting bonus ammo for the various weapons in the game.

All Unlockable Charms

Currently, Resident Evil 4 Remake features 30 unlockable charms, with two being Deluxe Edition exclusive items. Keep in mind, that the passive bonuses do not stack, so equipping 2 charms that impact Green Herb Health recovery will not be combined into a higher percentage. Therefore, players should make sure their three charms have unique bonuses to get the most out of them.
