Resident Evil 4 Remake: All Handguns (& How to Get Them)

As a special agent, Leon S. Kennedy has mastered all weapon types. But, handguns have always been his go-to choice. He enters the mysterious Village in the RE4 remake with a custom-built pistol called the Silver Ghost and continues collecting more by fulfilling the Merchant Requests or looting treasure boxes. The following is a list of all handguns he comes across—along with practical guides for getting them.

List of All Handguns

The Deluxe and Collector’s weapons included, the Resident Evil 4 remake has six handguns: SG-09R, Punisher, Red9, Blacktail, Matilda, and Sentinel Nine.

SG-09R

Also known as the Silver Ghost, the SG-09R is a semiautomatic handgun designed by Joseph Kendo. In the remake of Resident Evil 4, the SG-09R is Leon’s starting weapon and requires no additional step to unlock. But it can be upgraded to a 2.00-power pistol with a 5x Critical Rate.

Punisher

The Punisher is an armor-piercing handgun, which unlocks in Chapter 2. When fully upgraded, it gains an extra 5x penetration power, becoming one of the best herd-controlling weapons. To get the Punisher, the player must pay the Merchant 5 Spinels—or buy it for 10,000 Pesetas after the initial purchase.

Red9

The Red9 is a 9mm pistol with an integral box magazine. Its maxed-out version is considered the most powerful handgun in the Resident Evil 4 remake that one-shots most enemies.

To get the Red9 for free, the player must ride the boat in Chapter 4 to the center of the Lake, where there’s a shipwreck. Then they must loot the box on the deck to retrieve this pistol.

Blacktail

Matilda

A nod to the Leon: The Professional movie, Matilda is a burst-fire machine pistol. What makes this weapon unique is its ability to fire three shots at once, which takes down most regular enemies—and stuns bosses. To get Matilda, the player must pay 10 Spinels to the Merchant in Chapter 8 or repurchase it for 20,000 Pesetas afterward.

Sentinel Nine

The Sentinel Nine is a semiautomatic pistol with a high-capacity magazine. Power-wise, it’s one of the weakest handguns in the RE4 remake, which is also quite expensive to upgrade. Currently, the only way to get the Sentinel Nine is by purchasing the game’s Deluxe or Collector’s Editions or paying for it as a separate DLC.

The Best Handgun in Resident Evil 4 Remake

In terms of power, the best pistol in the remake of Resident Evil 4 is the Red9. A fully upgraded Red9 has a max power of 4.05, enough to kill most regular-type enemies. But the Blacktail and SG-09R are also excellent choices as they offer a good balance of power and precision.
