Several days ago, Capcom released the highly-anticipated remake of Resident Evil 3, which puts players in the role of STARS officer Jill Valentine and her desperate escape from Raccoon City. In the first ten minutes of the game alone, it is pretty obvious that Capcom has been more liberal in introducing changes and shuffling events in Resident Evil 3 remake, as compared to last year's more faithful reimagining of Resident Evil 2.

Similar to the original Resident Evil 3, which was released in 1999, Resident Evil 3 remake features a short main campaign, at least by today's modern standards. On average, players reported that they were able to complete Resident Evil 3 for about 5-6 hours on their first playthrough. Unlike its predecessors, Resident Evil 3 only has one scenario, but players will be able to control both Jill Valentine and Carlos Oliveria in the game.

However, even though Resident Evil 3 has a short story, there are still many things that players can do after finishing the main campaign. Now, for those players who have successfully guided Jill Valentine's escape from Raccoon City, here are some things that players can do in Resident Evil 3 after finishing the main campaign.

Resident Evil 3 Difficulties: Nightmare and Inferno

Resident Evil 3 remake features five different difficulty settings: Assisted, Standard, Hardcore, Nightmare, and Inferno. However, it is worth remembering that the Nightmare can only be unlocked after completing the game in Harcore, and Inferno can only be accessed after completing Nightmare. It is recommended that beginners start at Standard Mode in order for them to get a feel of the game first, learn how to dodge, and get a feel of what to expect with every Nemesis encounter. Of course, the Assisted mode is also an option, but this mode is too easy and defeats the purpose of playing a survival-horror game.

After completing the game on whichever mode, players can then challenge themselves by trying to play again but on a harder difficulty. Of course, completing Resident Evil 3 in Inferno would not only earn players with bragging rights but with a well-deserved trophy/achievement. It is also important to remember that after completing the game on a specific difficulty, players will be rewarded with a trophy for that difficulty and for any other modes that are below it. For example, after completing the main campaign in Hardcore mode, the game will also acknowledge the completion of Standard and Assisted. Players interested in trying a different difficulty can check out the list below containing all the descriptions of each setting.

  • Assisted - Aim Assist, Recover a certain amount of health automatically, Enemies are weaker, the player begins with an Assault Rifle rather than a handgun, More ammunition when crafting, four additional item slots, and difficulty can be changed.
  • Standard - the standard game mode, the difficulty can only be changed to Assisted after a certain amount of deaths.
  • Hardcore - Enemies are stronger, ammunition and items are a rare, less ammunition when crafting, two hits from a zombie result to death, and the difficulty cannot be changed.
  • Nightmare - Can only be unlocked after completing Hardcore, enemies are much stronger than Hardcore, enemy, and item placements are changed, and the difficulty cannot be changed.
  • Inferno - Can only be unlocked after completing Nightmare, enemies are much stronger than Nightmare, no autosave, the difficulty cannot be changed.

Aim For S-Rank

Another challenge that players can participate in after completing the main campaign is to earn the highest ranking available in Resident Evil 3, which is the S-Rank. Throughout each playthrough, the game records the playtime of the player and the number of saves made, which are the only requirements to earn a specific ranking. This means that players can spam all the first-aid sprays they can get their hands to. The requirement to get the S-Rank is different depending on the difficulty setting that the player selects at the start of the campaign. Of course, earning S-Rank on Inferno mode is the ultimate and highest rank the player can get, which will probably earn them the respect of Jill Valentine herself, and make Nemesis cower in fear. Below are the requirements to get S-Rank per difficulty mode.

  • Assisted - Game must be completed in under 2:30:00, with no more than five saves.
  • Standard - Game must be completed in under 2:00:00, with no more than five saves.
  • Hardcore - Game must be completed in under 1:45:00, with no more than five saves.
  • Nightmare - Game must be completed in under 2:00:00, with no more than five saves.
  • Inferno - Game must be completed in under 2:00:00 with no more than five saves.

It is worth pointing out that the time required in both Nightmare and Inferno are more relaxed than in Hardcore, but players must remember that enemies in these modes are much resilient and more difficult to kill.

Earn all Achievements

Another new feature that is included in Resident Evil 3 remake is the achievement system. In the main menu of Resident Evil 3, players will find a menu tab that displays all the available achievements available and those that were already completed by the player. To earn achievements, players must complete a specific condition in a playthrough, and completing one will reward players with points. For example, killing 200 enemies with a handgun would earn players 5200 points, which they can then use to purchase items in the in-game store.

Resident Evil 3's store features several items such as weapons, infinite ammo, costumes, and many more. Some notable items that players can purchase in the store include:

  • Jill's STARS Gear (The outfit Jill wore in the Mansion Incident): 2000P
  • Recovery Coin (Gradually regenerate health when held. Carry two to increase the effect) - 4000P
  • Iron Defense Coin (Greatly increases your defense when held. Carry two to increase the effect.) - 4000P
  • Infinite MUP Handgun - 8000P
  • Infinite Rocket Launcher 62400P

Although Resident Evil 3 remake has a short main campaign, players should know that the game also includes the multiplayer game Resident Evil Resistance. It is worth pointing out that half of the game's file size is comprised of Resident Evil Resistance, which players can access even before completing the primary campaign. Resistance is an online 4v1 multiplayer game that divides a group of 5 players into two factions comprising of 4 Survivors and 1 Mastermind. As the name suggests, the role of the Survivors is to survive the level that they're in remain alive for a duration of time. On the other hand, the Mastermind's main objective is to kill all Survivors by setting traps and releasing monsters, which includes the terrifying Mr. X.

Several days before the launch of Resident Evil 3, Capcom confirmed that Jill Valentine will be joining the roster of Survivors in Resident Evil Resistanc e on April 17. As of the moment, it is unknown whether other characters from Resident Evil 3 will join Jill, but Carlos will likely be included in the game sometime in the future.

Resident Evil 3 is available now for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
