The Resident Evil 2 remake was mostly faithful to the source material, but it was missing some enemy types. There will be changes in the upcoming Resident Evil 3 remake as well, but we can confirm that at least one of the game's unique enemies will be returning.
As revealed by the Official PlayStation Magazine, the sliding worm enemies from the original game will be returning in the Resident Evil 3 remake. For those that may not remember, the sliding worms are slimy green creatures that pounce on their victims to suck their blood. They don't pose a huge threat by themselves, but can overwhelm players when encountered in large numbers.
The existence of the sliding worms in the Resident Evil 3 remake likely confirms the return of an even greater threat - the Grave Digger. The Grave Digger enemy is the adult version of the sliding worms, and is much more dangerous than its leech-like offspring. Players encounter a couple of Grave Diggers over the course of the Resident Evil 3 story, and it seems as though they will have to contend with them in the remake as well.
In the original Resident Evil 3 game, the Grave Digger enemies were encountered in the sewers and at the Raccoon City Park. It's possible that the location of the Grave Diggers will be different in the new game, but that remains to be seen. It's likely that fans won't know for sure until the Resident Evil 3 remake launches in April.
We know that the Resident Evil 3 remake will make some changes, and so it's quite possible that players won't encounter the sliding worms and Grave Diggers in the same spots. It's also possible that players will encounter more Grave Diggers than the couple that were seen in the original game. After all, we know that some of the human characters in the Resident Evil 3 remake are being given expanded roles, so there's no reason that can't extend to enemies as well.
In the meantime, we're still waiting for word on some of the other enemies that were encountered in the original Resident Evil 3. It's been teased that the Resident Evil 3 remake will bring back crows, but that has yet to be confirmed.
Resident Evil 3 launches on April 3 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
