Resident Evil 2 is now available to the masses, giving players a chance to relive the horrifying Raccoon City incident with Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield. And like many other Resident Evil  games, Resident Evil 2 gives players the option to customize the appearance of the two heroes by equipping alternate costumes.

There are two costumes that Resident Evil 2  players can unlock in-game. Both Leon and Claire have alternate costumes that can be unlocked by completing each character's "A" scenario. For the uninitiated, the "A" scenario is when a playthrough is started with that character first, followed by a 2nd Run "B" scenario that stars the other character. So for example, completing Leon A will start Claire B, and so forth.

There are other alternate costumes in Resident Evil 2, but these can't actually be unlocked in-game. Instead they are only available to those who purchase the Deluxe Edition, which costs about $10 more than the standard versions of the game. These costumes are available in the Deluxe Edition:

  • Arklay Sheriff Leon
  • Eliza Walker Claire
  • Military Claire
  • Noir Claire
  • Noir Leon

In the future, Capcom plans on adding more costumes to Resident Evil 2 as DLC. So far, the company has confirmed two more costumes for Claire and Leon, which will make them look exactly as they did in the PS1 original. These polygonal costumes will be added to the game for free on March 22 across all platforms.

Now that players know how to get the alternate costumes in Resident Evil 2, they may be wondering how to change into them. Past Resident Evil games sometimes had obtuse methods of equipping new skins and outfits, but luckily Resident Evil 2 makes it very simple. Just push the Options button and select Costumes. From there, players can equip their costume of choice. The Deluxe Edition costumes should be available right from the get-go, but the Classic Leon and Alternate Claire costumes will have to be unlocked by completing each character's A scenario first.

Resident Evil 2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
