Following both The Awakened King and The Forgotten Kingdom, Remnant 2 is set to cap off its trilogy of DLC expansions with the upcoming Dark Horizon. The Dark Horizon is perhaps the largest and most ambitious of Remnant 2's post-launch content updates, introducing an array of content that is exclusive to the DLC expansion alongside a slew of changes to character progression, UI, and other requested quality of life changes. In a recent hands-off preview event with Gunfire Games, The Best War Games got some info on the exciting new Prisms, which are shaping up to be one of the biggest and most important changes to Remnant 2's endgame.
The new Prism system in Remnant 2 comes as part of the launch of The Dark Horizon DLC but will be available to all players as part of a massive free update, regardless of whether they purchase the new expansion. These new items join a completely rebalanced and reworked Relic Fragment system to give players stackable bonuses that have a major impact on player performance the more they engage with them. Combined with everything else coming in this DLC, Remnant 2's new Prism system has the potential to create even more build variety within the game's meta.
September 24 is Going to Be a Big Day for Remnant 2
Remnant 2 players should mark September 24 on their calendars because developer Gunfire Games has some exciting news they won’t want to miss.
Remnant 2's Prisms Function Similarly to Borderlands 2's Badass Ranks
One of the most exciting changes coming to Remnant 2 in conjunction with the release of The Dark Horizon DLC is a massive free update that includes major shakeups to the game's UI elements, item economy, and endgame progression. The Prism system is a key component of this, but it's also part of a major overhaul of the Relic Fragments, including the removal of 15 Fragments and the addition of 20 new ones. The Prisms are central to the Relic Fragment system's overhaul, and the way that they function toward providing character bonuses will be familiar to fans of Borderlands 2.
Like Borderlands 2's Badass Ranks, Prisms grant stat bonuses to players' characters and can be leveled up. Each level-up adds another stack of the Prism's inherent bonus, with 5 stacks resulting in the opportunity to create unique fusions that have a major impact on characters' performance. And, just like Badass Rank, players will unlock Prisms fairly early in Remnant 2, but the bonuses they provide will become much more evident in the endgame after acquiring some levels and seeing those stat bonuses stack to have a cumulative impact.
How the Prisms Will Impact Endgame Progression and Expand Build Variety in Remnant 2
The introduction of the Prisms is intended to be something that entices players to stick with Remnant 2 in the endgame, opening up new avenues for character builds and strategy by affording more flexibility in which Relic Fragments players choose. Further, players can effectively "feed" Fragments to their Prisms to get a large chunk of experience all while potentially getting that Fragment's skill affixed to the Prism. In essence, the Prism system gives players a shot at creating custom builds that perfectly cater to their playstyle.
There are 7 Prisms in total, each of which has three Fragment slots and 5 slots for passive skill bonuses. When feeding Fragments to the Prism, players can see the chance they have to roll a specific stat bonus, allowing players to take a calculated approach to endgame progression and continue pushing their power curve. And with a new, reworked UI for the Relic Fragment screen, making those choices will be easier than ever when The Dark Horizon and Remnant 2's accompanying update release.
