Remnant 2, the sequel to Remnant: From the Ashes, has completely changed the Archetype gameplay mechanic. They are now a core part of the character’s customization and make a huge difference to what kind of Builds players can create.

When players start their journey, they have the option to choose one of the four (or five for those who pre-ordered the game) starting Archetypes. This means that gamers get only one archetype for free and have to unlock the rest as they progress through the game. Each archetype has unique abilities, strengths, and weaknesses that can dramatically shape the nameless survivor’s journey in Remnant 2.

The Hunter is the only returning Archetype from the original Remnant game. It helps players deal critical damage from great distances and can be used with all weapon types – such as snipers or long guns. This class is best for players who love to take lethal long shots and exploit the weak points of their enemies.

To unlock The Hunter Archetype, players need to purchase the Rusty Medal from Brabus, an NPC in Ward 13, and take it to Wallace to craft the Sniper War Medal Engram.

The Challenger

The Challenger is an Archetype for players who find close combat to be thrilling. It is not dependent on accuracy, which makes weapons that don't have high accuracy statistics perfect for this class. New players find The Challenger one of the easiest classes to use, as its ability to endure damage can prove helpful in certain situations.

To unlock The Challenger Archetype, players need to purchase the Old Metal Tool from Reggie, an NPC in Ward 13, and take it to Wallace to craft the Steel Enswell Engram.

The Medic

The Medic Archetype from Remnant 2

The Medic is a support-oriented Archetype that enables players to heal themselves and their teammates. It focuses on healing and reviving fallen teammates, overall increasing their chances of defeating enemies. The Medic is a difficult class to play with compared to other classes, as it requires a lot of attention and management in multiplayer mode.

To unlock The Medic Archetype, players need to purchase the Medic Pin from Dr. Norah, an NPC in Ward 13, and take it to Wallace to craft the Caduceus Idol Engram.

The Handler

The Handler's Dog from Remnant 2

This Archetype is perfect for players who want to explore the unknown with man’s best friend. The Handler comes equipped with a Dog companion to accompany them into battle. The abilities of players who choose this archetype revolves around the skills of the dog.

To unlock The Handler Archetype and meet the pet dog, players need to purchase the Old Whistle from Mudtooth, an NPC in Ward 13, and then bring it to Wallace to create the Silent Whistle Engram.
