Gunfire Games' celebrated third-person shooter/soulslike hybrid Remnant 2 is gearing up for the release of its third and final DLC, The Dark Horizon, on September 24. Following the welcome additions that the previous two DLC expansions brought to Remnant 2, The Dark Horizon marks a satisfying conclusion for the game by introducing the largest new area to date, a brand-new archetype, and a slew of quality-of-life improvements to the game's progression economy and UI. Most of the new updates to the game's core systems are available to all players regardless of whether they purchase the DLC, including the arrival of Remnant 2's most requested feature: an item filter.

During a hands-off preview session going over the additions that players can expect in The Dark Horizon, two of Remnant 2's lead designers from Gunfire Games revealed that, by a large margin, players have been requesting the developer to implement an item filter in the game. As anyone who's played Remnant 2 can attest, the game is not shy about giving players plenty of loot with unique attributes, and sorting through all of it can be a bit cumbersome. The arrival of an item filter as part of Remnant 2's upcoming free update is a boon for players, and it also fits nicely alongside the game's reworked Relic Fragment system and UI.

Opinion: We Need More Soulslike Games Like Remnant 2

Remnant 2 isn't without its fair share of issues, but that's exactly why we need more games like it. No other game does "Dark Souls with guns" as good as Remnant 2 does, and I'd love to see someone make their own spin into the formula Gunfire Games managed to cook up for their game.

Remnant 2's Update Arriving With The Dark Horizon DLC Brings a Slew of Requested Changes

While the addition of an item filter to Remnant 2's menus and UI is the most requested change from players, there are several other gameplay tweaks arriving as part of The Dark Horizon's launch and Remnant 2's massive free update. Another major UI overhaul comes about via the completely reworked Relic Fragment system and screen, which includes shake-ups to the number of available Fragments along with the new endgame Prism system. Remnant 2 throws a lot of gear at players, but it will now be easier than ever before to effectively sort through it all.

Along with these systemic changes to Remnant 2, the game is also adding a free Boss Rush mode. While fighting the DLC bosses in this mode is exclusive to those who purchase The Dark Horizon, players can fight all of Remnant 2's base game bosses in a gauntlet-style deathmatch. That means more access to loot, and a loot filter to boot.

Still, for the many players who have requested it since launch, the addition of an item filter to Remnant 2's menu and equipment screens is a major boon. Players will now be able to sort through their gear using a wide variety of filters, including sorting by equipment type, rarity, or even bonuses like critical chance. Taken as a whole, The Dark Horizon represents a full-circle moment for Remnant 2, delivering a major improvement to many of the game's core elements while also bringing players the most ambitious and content-rich of the game's DLC expansions.
