Remedy Entertainment has shared that the remake of the first two Max Payne games and the sequel to Control have advanced to the next stage of development. Max Payne and Control are two of the most popular IPs created by the Finnish developer.

Back in 2022, Remedy announced its decision to remake two of the most popular action games from the early 2000s, Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, in collaboration with series publisher Rockstar Games. The cinematic third-person shooter games will be reimagined from the ground up as a single title, using Remedy's Northlight Engine, for players on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. On the other hand, Control 2 is the highly anticipated sequel of the 2019 action-adventure game, which was first confirmed in 2021. After previously giving an update on Max Payne 1&2 remake and Control 2 in April, the developer has recently shed light upon the current status of these projects.

In its latest financial report, Remedy revealed that the Max Payne 1&2 remake entered full production during the second quarter, whereas Control 2 moved forward to the "production readiness" stage. For the Max Payne remake, it highlighted that the devs have been working on building an early version of the game, playable from the beginning to the end, with a focus on "key differentiating gameplay features." Moreover, the studio now has a playable build for Control 2 that exhibits "several important features" as it looks to scale up production going further. The report also states that Control 2's early build was subjected to a "large-scale internal playtest" for gathering feedback.

Control Developer Sees an Uptick in Revenue

Besides sharing updates on its major IPs, Remedy announced raking in a revenue of EUR 10.3 million (~USD 11.25 million) during Q2 2024, a 16.2% jump compared to the same period in the previous year. The Finland-based developer also noted that it expects the revenue for the rest of the year to see an increase compared to last year and for its operating income to see an improvement as well. For that to happen, it appears that the physical launch of Alan Wake 2 in October could prove to be key.

Earlier in May, Remedy canceled what would have been a new IP, project Kestrel, in favor of putting its resources into games being developed under its existing franchises. Such unwavering commitment towards its established IPs suggests that fans can expect the Alan Wake studio to give a hundred percent to the forthcoming Max Payne 1&2 remake and Control 2.
