Rematch is by no means an easy game, with most mechanics able to be used in multiple ways depending on the situation. Even something as simple as controlling the ball can be difficult, especially when receiving long balls or crosses. If no button is pressed, the ball will often pass through the player.

Rebounds off the back wall in Rematch are a common occurrence and difficult to deal with, but there are ways to stop them.

There are a few ways to control the ball in Rematch, with each method being useful in different scenarios. These can all help players hold onto possession, set their teammates up, and score more goals.

How To Control The Ball In Rematch

How To Control A Ball That's Hard To Reach & Most Common Method

The most common way to control the ball in Rematch and at least take a touch, even when it's slightly out of reach, is with the Push Ball button.

  • Xbox: A
  • PlayStation: Cross
  • PC: Spacebar

Players should press this when a blue diamond is shown around the ball. The ball can be on the floor or in the air, as the ball can be headed down. A direction should also be inputted with the Left Stick or WASD.

There are downsides to this control method, however, as the ball is technically pushed away, and players may unintentionally play it into an opponent; however, this touch is fairly small and great in many cases. If the ball is bouncing over you, this mechanic is needed as the player will jump up to control the ball.

Players can practice controlling the ball in freeplay by booting it away and recalling it with the Right Stick or the Middle Mouse Button.

How To Control A Ball In Mid-Air (Lob Push Ball)

If the ball is in mid-air, and players want to keep it in the air, perhaps to avoid a slide tackle, they should use the Lob Push Ball mechanic. This is also the rainbow flick button.

  • Xbox: RB + A
  • PlayStation: R1 + Cross
  • PC: C

The player will jump to meet the ball if it's high, or they may flick it up with their feet. As with the normal Push Ball, a direction input is needed. This could make the player flick it over their own head or to the side of an opponent.

This can be great when you're about to receive a long ball, but a defender is right next to you. Ideally, you'd flick or head it over them and get past.

How To Control A Ball Coming To Your Feet

When players can see that the ball is coming directly to their feet or chest, and they are facing the ball, there are two buttons to perfectly control the ball and have it stick to their feet.

  • Xbox: LT
  • PlayStation: L2
  • PC: Left Ctrl

This is the Skill Stance, and sets players up perfectly for dribbling the ball, perhaps with some skills, allowing them to avoid tackles in Rematch.
