- The new Red Dead Redemption PC port satisfies fan demand for the classic game on PC.
Rockstar Games has confirmed that the original Red Dead Redemption is finally coming to PC, over 14 years after it was first released on consoles. The original Red Dead Redemption launched for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010. Later that same year, PS3 and Xbox 360 games were treated to the standalone expansion, Undead Nightmare.
Red Dead Redemption remained trapped on PS3 and Xbox 360 for years until backward compatibility made it playable on the latest Xbox hardware. Then, in 2023, Red Dead Redemption came to the Nintendo Switch and PS4. While some fans were wanting a proper remaster or a full-blown remake of the game, Rockstar opted instead to simply port the open world classic to the newer platforms. After the release of the Switch and PS4 versions of the game, fans were calling on Rockstar to finally release the classic game on PC so PC gamers that played Red Dead Redemption 2 could get the full story. Rockstar is finally fulfilling that request with the newly-announced Red Dead Redemption PC port.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Player Discovers Surprising Dutch Detail After 700 Hours
An eagle-eyed Red Dead Redemption 2 fan online spots a surprising Dutch detail after over 700 hours of playtime, sparking some interesting theories.
The Red Dead Redemption PC port will launch on October 29 alongside the Undead Nightmare expansion. Made in collaboration with Double Eleven, the PC port includes 4K resolution at up to 144hz, Ultrawide and Super Ultrawide monitor support, HDR10 support, keyboard and mouse functionality, NVIDIA DLSS 3.7 and AMD FSR 3.0 upscaling, NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation, adjustable draw distances, shadow quality settings, "and more." It certainly seems as though the Red Dead Redemption PC port is checking all the boxes, but fans will have to wait until they can get their hands on the game on October 29 to find out for sure.
When is Red Dead Redemption 1 Coming to PC?
- Red Dead Redemption PC Release Date: October 29
Rockstar Games tends to favor consoles over PC, with PC gamers used to waiting extended periods of time to get their versions of the studio's games. Even so, 14 years is excessive. It took a little over one year for Red Dead Redemption 2 to come to PC, with that version of the game launching in 2019.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is actually a prequel to the original Red Dead Redemption. The latter's story picks up some years after RDR2 and sees John Marston forced to hunt down the remaining members of the Van der Linde gang. What proceeds is the usual Rockstar Games adventure full of comedy, action, emotional moments, and shocking twists and turns.
PC gamers can mark their calendars for October 29 for the Red Dead Redemption PC port. In the meantime, they should also brace themselves for Rockstar's next game. Grand Theft Auto 6 is likely not coming to PC at launch either, though hopefully, fans won't have to wait 14 years to play it.
