Summary
- Selling animal skins in Red Dead Redemption can help players earn money, as they have no other use in the game.
- Completing Treasure Hunter challenges and selling gold bars is a great way to earn a substantial amount of cash in the game.
- Collecting and selling plants can provide players with an easy and decent source of income in Red Dead Redemption.
As players embark through the Wild West in the original Red Dead Redemption, they should be aware of the items that they should sell to maximize their profit, and ensure that their pockets are only filled with two things: money and bullets. Having a steady amount of wealth in Red Dead Redemption can help in a few ways, much like there are a few ways to keep said wealth flowing.
Players can find a few items out in the wild in Red Dead Redemption that they can use to sell to vendors and other merchants across the game’s vast open-world landscape. However, the game is unlike Red Dead Redemption 2, which had plenty of items to be sold. Instead, Red Dead Redemption offers a simpler selection of items that can be sold, along with their prices for bartering.
6 Animal Skins
When players hunt animals, they are given the option to skin them. In skinning an animal, players will be left with a carcass, as well as a few items to be added to the inventory that acts as a currency for John Marston. One of these items is the skin of the animal. Or, depending on the size of the animal, a pelt. Whether it’s a mountain lion, beaver, or beard, skinning or plucking the animal will strip the once mighty beast of its uses, and allow John Marston to fill his pockets with wet and raw animal flesh.
Animal skins are a great thing for players to sell in Red Dead Redemption since holding onto them holds no favor. In Red Dead Redemption 2, these skins and pelts can be kept on the horse, and rot over time. Whereas in Red Dead Redemption, animal skins are simply used to be sold to vendors.
5 Gold Treasure
There are a fair few challenges for players to face in Red Dead Redemption, and one of them is the Treasure Hunter challenges. With these 10 ranks, players will have to advance through finding a Treasure Map, and discovering the obscure and solvable location inside the map that will help players find the gold inside a secret container.
Players can find plenty of gold bars through these treasure hunter challenges in Red Dead Redemption, each will provide the player with a bounty of gold if they are to sell it. There isn’t much to do with said gold bars other than to sell them off, so players should do that instead of hoarding it all.
4 Plants
Plant gathering isn’t exactly the most riveting of adventures and valuable methods of spending time in Red Dead Redemption, but it’s certainly something that will help John Marston make an honest living on his failing ranch of Beecher’s Hope. Players can pick many plants through the game, and although they may not net the player a bundle of dollars, they can be found so commonly that it’s money in bushes waiting to be traded for that sweet dollar.
Plants are one of the few items that players can sell in Red Dead Redemption, and it’s always worth rummaging and collecting plants when they are found, as it won’t take players too long to pick and pluck, and they can get themselves some decent money out of it.
3 Legendary Animal Items
A great tip for starting players is to unlock and equip the Expert Hunter Outfit, as that will net players double the reward for hunting the Legendary Animals in Red Dead Redemption. Nevertheless, the Legendary Animals in Red Dead Redemption may be scarce and far fewer than the numbers featured in Red Dead Redemption 2, but that does not mean they are without their uses.
Players can find 4 Red Dead Redemption Legendary Animals, each with their area to roam. When finding and skinning these animals, players will receive unique rewards that are exclusive to that Legendary Animal, meaning it will sell for a large chunk of cash rather than that of an ordinary animal type.
2 Animal Meat
Alongside an animal skin, players will obtain other desirables, such as animal meat. This can range from a plethora of tropical meats, whether that be that of a rattlesnake, an eagle, or even the meat of a mountain lion. Vendors will always happily pick up this meat, no matter how gamey or how long it has been sat in John Marston’s satchel getting soggy and rotten.
Meat cannot rot in Red Dead Redemption, so it’s safe to keep it in the player’s inventory for a while. However, it’s a very useful item to sell, as it has no use for the player other than taking up inventory space. Unlike in Red Dead Redemption 2, where players would have to cook or sell meat to stop it from spoiling.
1 Hunted Items
Players might be used to skinning animals by now in Red Dead Redemption, as long as they are not squeamish. Hunting animals is truly the best way to make money in Red Dead Redemption, due to the honest work that players will put into tracking and hunting the required prey, or predator. However, one thing that seems more important than both pelts and meats are the other resources that can be harvested.
Players can sometimes net themselves some neat treasures, like claws and hearts, which will sell for far more than the ordinary sirloin steak that they might pick up. These hunted items have no further use for John Marston outside of a currency to trade, so it’s a good idea to sell them off.
Red Dead Redemption is currently available on PS3 and Xbox 360. The game is set to release on Nintendo Switch and PS4 on August 17, 2023.
