Listed below is a collection of the most difficult achievements to earn in Red Dead Redemption and how to complete them, providing players with what they need so that they can venture into the dying years of the Wild West to obtain some truly tough Red Dead Redemption trophies.

8 No Dice

Keep Every Dice and Win the Game

No Dice achievement
  • Complete a game of Liar’s Dice without losing a single die.

Liar’s Dice is one of the most fun minigames in Red Dead Redemption, but it’s not without its challenges. No Dice is a trophy that can be earned once players complete a game of Liar’s Dice without losing a single die, and that’s harder than one might think. The AI can be pretty good at Liar’s Dice, and players will need to know when to bluff, call, and tell the truth in order to cheat the AI and claim victory. One great tactic for this minigame is to tell the truth, forcing other challengers to bluff, which makes it easier for players to make them lose their dice.

7 Unnatural Selection

Kill 26 Different Animals

Unnatural Selection achievement
  • Kill one of every animal species in the game in any game mode.

While Red Dead Redemption doesn’t have the same number of animals as Red Dead Redemption 2, players are still required to find and kill every single one of them if they want to get the Unnatural Selection achievement. There are 26 animals that are needed for this achievement, and these consist of:

  • Armadillo
  • Bear
  • Beaver
  • Bighorn
  • Boar
  • Bobcat
  • Buffalo
  • Cougar
  • Coyote
  • Crow
  • Deer
  • Duck
  • Eagle
  • Elk
  • Fox
  • Hawk
  • Horse
  • Owl
  • Rabbit
  • Raccoon
  • Skunk
  • Seagull
  • Snake
  • Songbird
  • Vulture
  • Wolf

6 Friends in High Places

Remove a Very, Very Expensive Bounty

Friends in High Places achievement
  • Use a pardon letter with a bounty of more than $5,000.

As players progress through Red Dead Redemption, they might not see money as an issue, but $5,000 is still pretty steep for 1911, especially when it requires so much blood. Players will need to degrade their honor ranking as much as they kill helpless citizens and commit other atrocities to raise their bounty, forcing themselves to drown in the blood of innocent people. Players will need to kill so many people without killing the last witness, and then they will need to venture somewhere safe where the player can clear their name with a Pardon Letter at the Telegraph Office, but this is a random piece of loot from chests, Gang Hideouts, or safes. While it might be free of charge to use the Pardon Letter, the cost of morality and time spent on racking up a bounty and losing Honor might force players to reload an old save.

5 Mowing Them Down

Use a Mounted Weapon on 500 Enemies

Mowing Them Down achievement
  • Kill 500 enemies with a mounted weapon in any game mode.

Mowing Them Down requires players to eliminate 500 enemies with a mounted weapon, which consists of a Gatling Gun or a Cannon. However, this can be quite a hard trophy to earn when one understands that repeating missions does not count, and these mounted weapons are not exactly common in missions anyway. Thankfully, El Presidio has cannons that players can use, or the Maxim Gun at the El Matadero safehouse, allowing players to aggravate the law to send them in droves to these locations so players can endlessly kill 500 of them, but it might take some time.

4 Spurred Victory

Keep Your Horse Alive and Well for 20 Missions Straight

Spurred Victory achievement
  • Complete 20 story missions without switching to a new horse at a hitching post.

The horse in Red Dead Redemption works differently from how it did in Red Dead Redemption 2. Horses in Red Dead Redemption 2 are obviously claimed by Arthur Morgan thanks to the map marker and the saddle that they use, and their location remains still since these animals do not spawn out of nowhere. For Red Dead Redemption, the player’s horse only has one marker and can spawn out of the blue with a whistle, so if players want to complete this missable achievement, they will need to keep their eyes focused on their horse by hitching it and unhitching it, and ensuring it doesn’t get shot to death in and out of missions for a run of 20 of them.

3 Frontiersman

Complete At Least One Ambient Challenge

Frontiersman achievement
  • Obtain Legendary rank in any Ambient Challenge.

There are 4 Ambient Challenges in Red Dead Redemption: Master Hunter, Sharpshooter, Survivalist, and Treasure Hunter. For this achievement, players only need to complete one of them, but that’s still 10 Challenges, including a set of difficult tasks facing each one. While players are free to choose between them, they’re not all that simple, and players will need to dedicate some time and skill to discovering collectibles or killing enemies in unique ways.

There are a total of eighteen outfits in Red Dead Redemption you can reveal and unlock, some of which will grant special bonus effects when worn.

2 On the Trail of de Vaca

Discover Every Map Location

On the Trail of de Vaca achievement
  • Uncover every location on the map.

For this achievement, players are going to want to make sure they have their sturdiest set of boots, ammunition in their revolver, and a trusty horse that they can venture across the Wild West with, as On the Trail of de Vaca requires players to visit every location on the map. Thankfully, there’s a way to make this trophy a tad easier simply by visiting all the General Stores and purchasing the maps involved, but even then, obtaining every location might not happen. Players are still going to have to explore the map for areas unseen, and use the Social Club to locate places on the map that players haven’t visited in the flesh.

1 Redeemed

Complete Everything The Game Has to Offer

Redeemed achievement
  • Attain 100% in the Game Completion stat.

By far the hardest trophy in Red Dead Redemption is Redeemed, an achievement that requires players to embark on everything that the game has to offer. That involves obtaining every Rare Weapon, completing all 57 Main Missions, every Outfit, Gang Hideout, Ambient Challenge, and more. There’s so much to Red Dead Redemption, so for players who are dedicating time specifically to this endgame trophy, they are going to need hours of playtime ahead of them, and the determination to complete absolutely everything.
