Recently, the gaming industry has made headlines by letting terminally ill gamers play their favorite game. Recent examples include a young man named Wes who was able to play Fallout 76 and another named Chris Taylor who played Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Unfortunately, Taylor succumbed to his cancer, but his legacy lives on, with stories such as his inspiring even more acts of kindness, including one involving Red Dead Redemption 2.

Although the aforementioned Western-themed action-adventure game launches in just a few weeks, the sad reality is that Jurian, a young man who suffers from neurofibromatosis type 2, a hereditary disease affecting around 400 people in the Netherlands, may not live to see it. Inspired by the aforementioned stories, Jurian's father Harm contacted Rockstar hoping his son could play Red Dead Redemption 2.

When Rockstar Netherlands was contacted, the company was willing to allow it, but had to contact headquarters first. Nevertheless, the company still set up Jurian quickly, and by the end of the week, two employees showed up with a private demo of the game. Jurian was able to play the game for a full afternoon before Rockstar left. The young man afterward gave the following as his reasoning to share the story:

“Seeing as I read an article a short while ago about a similar case with Nintendo, I thought I’d share, seeing as Rockstar did me a favor as well.”

One would imagine he is talking about Chris Taylor, the aforementioned fan who was able to play Smash Ultimate.  Either way, the launch of RDR2 is one of the biggest events for October 2018, so many are likely happy that Jurian was able to herald in the game.

Once the game launches, it seems fans will be in for a real treat, as these recently-released screenshots are beautiful. It's likely Jurian could attest to the overall beauty of the game, too. And hopefully, as more and more games launch, this kindness remains at the fore of the gaming industry.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is set to release on PS4 and Xbox One on October 26, 2018.
