Red Dead Redemption 2 players have uncovered a mystery in the game that no one has noticed before. Red Dead Redemption 2 is now seven years old, but it seems to never stop surprising both newcomers and long-time fans alike.

Fans of Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto know that Rockstar Games has a history of hiding Easter eggs, mysteries, UFOs, and other oddities in its games. Fans of the studio have been graced with everything from realizing they've dealt with time travelers to tongue-in-cheek messages telling the player to go away because there are no Easter eggs to be found. While Red Dead Redemption 2 is a big game with a lot of ground to cover, most players likely expected that all of its secrets had been uncovered at this point. However, players are now piecing together a new mystery.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Spider Dream Mystery Discovered

Red Dead Redemption 2 The Gang Rides In The Snow

The Red Dead Redemption 2 mystery community has discovered something unusual in the game that's gone unnoticed until now. Players started pointing out that spider webs could be found in the game at set locations, but only during certain times of the day, at around 2-4 AM in-game. Near Cornwall Kerosene & Tar, a telegraph pole has a spider faintly carved in it, and at the very top, a spider web with a feather can be spotted during a narrow window of time. The carving would likely be overlooked by most players entirely, and many probably wouldn't think anything of it even if they did see it. However, the community has discovered that there's a lot more to this mystery than a simple carving.

The Red Dead Redemption 2 community discovered that if the carving of the spider is overlaid onto the map, its legs align to the location of seven other spiderwebs that can also only be spotted at specific times of night. Additionally, the area that makes up the center of the spider on the map contains another set of webs that lack the feathers, but make up the shape of the letter "N." Following the path north from there reveals a telegraph pole that can be shot, which then reveals a "W" with more telegraph poles. Following the path west leads to another pole that can be fired at to reveal a "NW," meaning north-west, and an image of a guitar. A guitar has been discovered to the north-west of the pole, but so far, players haven't determined where to go from there.

With so many documented Red Dead Redemption 2 mysteries, players have been scrambling to try and decipher what this new one could mean. The discovery has been dubbed the Spider Dream Mystery due to dataminers discovering that the unique spiderweb feathers are called "spiderdream" in the game's files.

With so many parts linking together in this mystery, there's next to no chance that all of this is an accident, but there could be some difficulty in finding the answers behind it all. Players have noticed that the guitar-carved telegraph pole seems to be pointing towards what's thought to be a beta camp that was scrapped at some point. Players have shared concerns that these findings could be part of a Red Dead Redemption 2 cut questline, which would likely mean that there's no answer or final meaningful discovery to be made in the game. Given the persistence of the community, though, there's a good chance that players will keep scouring Red Dead Redemption 2 for answers until they find one.

Another potential difficulty is Rockstar Games' tendency to introduce mysteries with no real answer. For example, the game seems to include a time traveler who vanishes, leaving players scratching their heads. Nigel, who searches endlessly for Gavin in Red Dead Redemption 2, also seems to find no answers, leaving some players to wonder if Gavin ever even existed. Add to that the presence of supernatural creatures like multiple ghosts and a vampire, and it becomes clear that even if players find the actual ending of the Spider Dream trail, it may raise more questions than answers.
