Red Dead Redemption 2 players online have been left totally confused by a clip showing some strange behavior for out-of-bounds ships. While the event that unfolds is certainly strange to watch, it's these types of details that make the world in Red Dead Redemption 2 feel so alive.
If there is one thing that Red Dead Redemption 2 is known for above all else, it's a near-excessive commitment to detail. Players are still discovering plenty of new things about the game over five years since its release, and much of it is down to Rockstar Games including details that no other developer would. Just recently, one Red Dead Redemption 2 player discovered a special detail about the game's hats, showcasing exactly why gamers continue to return to Rockstar's open-world game to this day.
In the clip posted to Reddit by user Low0424, they're riding a boat out near the edge of the map. They see two boats in the out-of-bounds area of the game, both of which crash into one another. As a result, both sink to the bottom of the river, although the event goes unacknowledged by Arthur. It's interesting to see that even the boats outside the playable map still have collision detection as well as their own AI paths, making them an active part of Red Dead Redemption 2's game world. It would have been too easy for Rockstar to make anything out-of-bounds simple set dressing. However, this clip proves that isn't the case.
Many players in the thread shared their own similar experiences in the game. It seems that when players go out-of-bounds in Red Dead Redemption 2, this sinking mechanic is in place to stop them from reaching unfinished parts of the map. Others were surprised it was even possible to ride a steamboat in-game. Riding small canoes can be key to fishing in Red Dead Redemption 2, but it's never made clear that steamboats are also an available option.
While players continue to discover new details about Red Dead Redemption 2, speculation remains rampant about the possibility of a sequel. It was only recently that a leaker claimed Red Dead Redemption 3 is in development. With Grand Theft Auto 6 set to begin its marketing campaign after a decade of waiting, it's certainly plausible that Rockstar would be thinking one step into the future, although nothing is set in stone at the moment.
