Red Dead Redemption 2 is an incredibly celebrated game. A big part of the reason is due to the efforts that went into the game from its developers, as it's constantly impressing newcomers and surprising long-time fans with the tiny details hidden in Red Dead Redemption 2. However, the performances of the cast who brought the playable and non-playable characters to life also play a huge role in making it as loved as it is today.

As the protagonist of Red Dead Redemption 2, Arthur has made some powerful statements that resonate with players.

Roger Clark brought Arthur to life, so it only makes sense to ask him what he thinks the game's ending should be. In a recent interview with Gamology, Clark talked about the game extensively, answering various questions poised by fans. One of the questions asked was what ending he considered to be the canon one. In Morgan's opinion, the high-honor route of helping John is the "real" ending. By the time the player makes their decision between helping John or going after the money, Arthur is extremely sick with tuberculosis, a then-incurable disease. As Morgan puts it, "Arthur's days are numbered. What's money gonna do him anyway? You might as well help John."

Arthur's Path in Red Dead Redeption 2

Part of the appeal of Red Dead Redemption 2 is the ability to choose how Arthur behaves in the game. Unfortunately, there's no way to save Arthur's life at the end, but the route he takes to get to that outcome can differ depending on the decisions the player makes. While many see Arthur as an honorable character, players are still at liberty to play it the other way. Red Dead Redemption 2 already has an extensive campaign and tons of to do beyond the main story, but this flexibility further adds to the replayability of the title.

In the end, outside of Rockstar Games cementing the true ending with a confirmation or future game, it's open to player interpretation. However, many would likely agree with whatever choice Clark shared. While he's not responsible for writing the character, Clark knows Arthur better than most, having brought him to life in both voice and physical performance. He's also well-liked by the game's community, not only for his award-winning performance as Arthur Morgan, but due to his interactions with fans. His thoughts on the matter may be the closest thing to a confirmed canon ending that gamers will get.
