Ever since Red Dead Redemption 2 was announced for release on PS4 and Xbox One, PC gamers have been asking for Rockstar Games to also put out the game on their platform of choice. Although the original  RDR was never released on the platform, the franchise has a legion of PC players who have looked on consoles in envy.

Rockstar Games has yet to make any formal announcements regarding a PC version of the game, but recent comments made by Rockstar parent company Take-Two Interactive suggest that Red Dead Redemption 2 could eventually come to PC. Speaking during the company's recent financial briefing, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said, "I would observe that the PC platform has become a very, very important part of what we do, driven by digital distribution."

While that wasn't the case for "so-called "console" titles 10 years ago, "it is the case now," said the executive. When discussing Grand Theft Auto 5's shift from PS3 and Xbox 360 to PC, PS4 and Xbox One and how successful it has been, Zelnick added that “we will make decisions about what [platforms] to support based on our view of potential success."

That Take-Two now sees PC as an important part of its business is little surprise. Grand Theft Auto 5 has now sold over 95 million copies and is one of the highest-grossing properties in all of entertainment, something that is somewhat attributable to the game's performance on PC. The enthusiasm of the PC playing community and the streamers and YouTubers who use the PC version of the game to make content play a significant part in how much revenue that game continues to make.

But many prospective Red Dead Redemption 2 players on PC will wonder what exactly will it take for Take-Two and Rockstar to confirm a PC version. PC gamers started a petition for a PC version of the game that drew significant support, something which could suggest a lot of potential success for the game. Moreover, there was a lot of enthusiasm surrounding the PlayStation Now service which allows PC gamers to play Red Dead Redemption on their platform by streaming it through a PS3.

While Take-Two has yet to make a formal announcement, it is worth noting that the PC version of GTA 5 was released several months after the PS4 and Xbox One versions (which were themselves released after PS3/Xbox 360). So, even if a PC version isn't available at launch, Zelnick's comments suggest that Red Dead Redemption 2 may be released on PC later.
