2018 had no shortage of amazing video games, from action RPGs like Monster Hunter: World to 2D platformers like Celeste, but the battle for GOTY that year was primarily between two titles: God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2. At The Game Awards 2018, these games both received a whopping 8 nominations each, which was the most that a title had ever received in the event at the time. Although Red Dead Redemption 2 won 4 of the 8 awards it was nominated for, God of War ultimately took the crown for GOTY at the TGAs. In spite of this, RDR2 was still the best game of 2018 in many fans' eyes, and it won over 175 GOTY awards from several publications.
Red Dead Redemption 2 may be starting to show its age a bit, but it is still one of the most impressive games out there. In the 7 years that have passed since its release, no company has been able to develop a cowboy game with nearly as much depth or graphical fidelity as Rockstar's Western epic. To this day, Red Dead Redemption 2 is an essential experience for anyone who is even remotely interested in the Wild West. Luckily, those who've yet to play the game can get it on PlayStation consoles right now for a very low price, but only for a limited time.
Red Dead Redemption 2's Ultimate Edition is 80% Off on PlayStation Right Now
On the PlayStation Store, the Ultimate Edition of Red Dead Redemption 2 is currently on sale for a mere $20, which is 80% less than its original $100 price. While this version of the game has gone on sale plenty of times in the past, this is the biggest discount that it has ever received. Red Dead Redemption 2: Ultimate Edition normally goes on sale for about $30 on PlayStation, but this is the fifth time since April 2025 that the game's price has been reduced this much. Players who purchase this version of Red Dead Redemption 2 will not only receive exclusive Story Mode content, such as a bank robbery heist mission and hideout, but they'll also get cosmetics and Rank Bonuses for Red Dead Online.
A Bundle Featuring Both Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2 is Also on Sale
In addition to the Ultimate Edition, the bundle containing Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2 is also discounted on the PlayStation Store at the moment. While it doesn't contain any of the bonuses included in RDR2: Ultimate Edition, this combo pack does allow players to get RDR1 at a lower price than usual. Since the PS4 port of the game is still relatively new, it normally retails for $50 on PlayStation. By purchasing this $45 bundle, however, players can save $5 on the base price of RDR1 and get RDR2 at no additional cost.
Red Dead Revolver, the predecessor to Red Dead Redemption, is also on sale for just $9 on the PlayStation Store.
Rockstar May Release a Next-Gen Upgrade for Red Dead Redemption 2 Soon
The sales for both Red Dead Redemption 2: Ultimate Edition and the RDR1 + 2 bundle will end on September 25, so players have just a few days to take advantage of these discounts. Although Rockstar Games will almost certainly drop Red Dead Redemption 2's price again before the end of the year, there's probably never been a better time to purchase it on PlayStation than now. According to recent rumors, Rockstar is going to release a next-gen upgrade for RDR2 on modern consoles, including the PlayStation 5, sometime in 2025. This new version of the game will, presumably, include 60 FPS support and improved resolutions, which RDR2 has sorely been missing on PS5.
PlayStation Players Should Probably Get RDR2 On a Deep Discount Now, While They Still Can
If a native PS5 port of Red Dead Redemption 2 actually exists, then Rockstar may stop giving the game major discounts after it's eventually released. Assuming it doesn't offer any upgrade paths, there is also the possibility that the company will force players to purchase RDR2 again if they want to play the game at 60 FPS on PS5. Regardless of how the pricing for this rumored port is handled, though, it's probably best to buy Red Dead Redemption 2 now while it's still on sale, just to be safe.
