Red Dead Redemption 2 has surpassed 77 million copies sold, according to a recent Take-Two Interactive earnings report. It's been nearly seven years since the iconic Wild West action-adventure title came out, and sales are still going strong. Despite its age and the yearning for a third entry, Red Dead Redemption 2 is still a high point for Rockstar and Take-Two's financial figures.
While the Grand Theft Auto series may lead the pack in terms of top-selling Rockstar Games, Red Dead is no slouch, either. As of May 2024, Red Dead Redemption 2 landed as the seventh-best-selling game of all time at an impressive 63 million copies sold. A year later, and it has not slowed down and has climbed those rankings even further.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Reaches New Milestone on Steam
Due to an ongoing promotion on Steam, Red Dead Redemption 2 crosses an important player milestone years after its initial launch.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Becomes the Best-Selling Game of the Past 7 Years in the U.S.
The most recent Take-Two Interactive financial results report revealed that the Red Dead series as a whole has passed 104 million units sold worldwide, with RDR2 accounting for 77 million of those sales and rising to become the 6th best-selling game ever. Even more impressive is the fact that RDR 2 hit the 70 million copies sold mark near an earlier Take-Two report in February 2025, meaning the game sold roughly 7 million copies in a matter of months, despite coming out years ago. The new earnings rundown also revealed that these sales are enough to make the game the best-selling title in the U.S. Of the past seven years in terms of dollar amount.
It's also interesting that Red Dead Redemption 2 has been able to sell so well in light of recent trends that may have led some fans to expect the opposite. Earlier this year, Rockstar raised the prices of both Red Dead Redemption games in the UK, Chile, Brazil, and the Czech Republic. It has also been a long time since RDR 2 has had any major updates, and it still does not have a version optimized for the PS5 or Xbox Series X. Given that context, it would be understandable if the game's sales performance started to wane, but it's still making waves.
Still, there is hope that RDR 2 could get a current-gen upgrade this year and possibly make its way to the Nintendo Switch 2. Fans waiting to sink their teeth into a third title may also go back to the last game in the series to tide themselves over. Whatever the case, Rockstar certainly is not complaining about its RDR 2 sales.
