Summary
- The Arabian stands out as the top horse breed in Red Dead Redemption 2 due to unbeatable stats and Elite-level handling.
- Missouri Fox Trotter and Turkoman horses closely follow the Arabian as top-tier horse choices with excellent stats.
- Certain lower-tier horses like Suffolk Punch, Shire, and Belgian offer weaker stats but can be caught in the wild.
As far as video games are concerned, Red Dead Redemption 2 is still the best Wild West simulator around. Set in the twilight years of the Wild West era, Red Dead Redemption 2 delivers a very lengthy, very emotional story that revolves around outlaw Arthur Morgan and his fellow Van der Linde Gang members. As Arthur Morgan, players will explore old-timey towns, Native American settlements, and turn-of-the-century cities, all on the back of their trusty steed.
Throughout the course of its 50-200 hour runtime, players will encounter a multitude of different horse breeds in Red Dead Redemption 2. A key part of Red Dead 2's gameplay is the player developing a bond with their horse, increasing its agility and strength through constant care and attention. Any horse in Red Dead Redemption 2 can be a worthwhile companion, but stats are hard to argue with, and there are simply some horse breeds that are better than others.
This tier list only contains horses found in Red Dead Redemption 2's story mode, and not its Online portion.

The defining trait of this tier is that the vast majority of horse breeds listed here have variants that appear at both the top and bottom of Red Dead Redemption 2's horse stat sheet. For instance, the American Paint's Grey Overo variant has stats that place it just below the Arabian's White variant, making it one of the better horses in the game and worthy of a spot in the A-tier. However, the American Paint also has several variants that place it much lower on the list, such as the Overo and Tobiano coats, which have stats that are more in line with those in the C-tier. Thus, the American Paint breed overall lands here, in the B-tier. The same is true for most of the breeds in this tier.
