A Red Dead Redemption 2 clip showed the moment that Arthur Morgan plummeted to his death as the player took their eyes off the screen. There are many things that can happen suddenly in Red Dead Redemption 2 given the detail that has been put into its open world, but this player has caused their own unexpected event.
Continuing a trend set by Rockstar games that were released before it, Red Dead Redemption 2 side quests offer distractions from the main story. Though these in-game activities often lead to interesting story moments in games like Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, gamers may also have real-world interruptions. With this player seemingly compelled to look away from the screen at the wrong time, Arthur fell to his death almost immediately.
Reddit user Rylancoolman69 recently shared a clip of their Red Dead Redemption 2 gameplay in which they're on a rescue mission. The mission dictates that the player, who has saved a girl that is stowed on the rear of the horse, pilot their way to the Red Dead Redemption 2 town called Annesburg. Rather than taking the yellow trail shown on their minimap, the Red Dead Redemption 2 player instead goes off-road through some woods and quickly careens off the side of a cliff with the girl that they were attempting to save.
Rylancoolman69's horse is notably fast throughout the Red Dead Redemption 2 video, which may suggest that they have a smaller mount that's maxed out on stamina. According to Rylancoolman69, their gameplay was interrupted by something on their phone which caused Arthur and the girl to both die and the mission to be failed. Although the clip concludes before Arthur respawns, the player likely lost progress in their gameplay as they will be set back to an earlier point in the mission. Based on the Arthur morality scale that Rylancoolman69 keeps up for much of their clip, the player is prioritizing evil choices in Red Dead Redemption 2 despite being in the midst of helping an NPC.
Red Dead Redemption 2 features a cinematic camera for sequences like the one Rylancoolman69 died during, which may have saved Arthur if it had been activated before their phone distracted them. The video shared by Rylancoolman69 shows that even a split-second distraction from one of the Red Dead Redemption 2 missions can cost Arthur.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
