Red Dead Redemption 2, the open-world title from Rockstar Games, achieved critical acclaim upon release for how much it brings its world to life. However, since the game involves a huge gameplay area and has numerous elements at play, the gameplay can get somewhat complex for some. Therefore, a lot of players tend to incline towards the use of cheats to make the Red Dead Redemption 2 experience simpler, to experiment with the gameplay, or to just mess around and have fun. Now, although the use of cheats is not a preferable mode of enjoying a game, it does not really violate a player's integrity if they do so to simplify a single-player game and is actually quite harmless.
The game has been around for quite a while now, so it is only natural for players to have found some of the glitches in RDR2 and exploit them to turn things in their favor. Moreover, Red Dead Redemption 2 actually has some of the cheat codes present in the form of very minute Easter eggs spread throughout the game. For instance, players can find some of the cheat codes present in the newspapers, a really minute detail that players would not usually spot unless they knew where to look.
Essential Red Dead Redemption 2 Cheats to Make The Game Simpler
As mentioned earlier, there are actually numerous cheats present in the world of Red Dead Redemption 2, but the players would need to know where to look, as the locations of these cheats are completely random, making them nearly impossible to locate in the vast open-world haystack. The earlier mention of cheats being present in newspapers is actually one of the few easier ways of finding some of the cheats. However, some of these only become available after the completion of certain checkpoints in the game, and so is the case with certain cheat codes as well. But in case things are quite favorable for the player, they might just stumble upon a lucky newspaper, where the cheat would be present in the form of an arbitrary phrase written at the bottom of the paper.
Apart from the newspaper plan, players can also try and locate some of the cheats that are spread throughout Red Dead Redemption 2. These cheats are usually present etched on a drawer or a table, or maybe carved on ice. What players need to be on the lookout for are arbitrary phrases present throughout Red Dead Redemption 2. Snooping around in abandoned houses and such can turn out a few positive results in the hunt for cheat codes.
The Red Dead Redemption 2 essential cheats list:
- “Abundance is the dullest desire”: This cheat grants Arthur unlimited ammo throughout the game, making it super handy for those who want to take the RDR2 experience a little breezy. However, players can only activate this if they have been purchasing newspapers from the first chapter.
- “Greed is American virtue”: This cheat grants Arthur Morgan a set of heavy weapons, making him ready to take on any opponent. Once again, this one requires players to buy a newspaper, but this time they need to do it after completing the "Advertising, the New American Art" mission from Chapter 3.
- “Greed is now a virtue”: It gives Arthur $500, making it one of the handiest cheats in Red Dead Redemption 2.
- “History is written by fools”: This one is simpler than the previous ones as it does not have any prerequisite mission completions. The cheat grants Arthur Morgan the "Gunslinger" side mission weapons.
- “You long for sight and see nothing”: It clears the Fog of War from the map. Like the first three, it requires the players to complete the "Blood Feuds, Ancient and Modern" mission from Chapter 3 and then buys a newspaper for its activation.
- “Vanity. All is vanity”: Perhaps one of the most aptly named cheats in the game, this one unlocks every in-game outfit in Red Dead Redemption 2.
- “Virtue unearned is not virtue”: This cheat gives Arthur Morgan the maximum honor, but can only be activated after having purchased a newspaper after the completion of the "Urban Pleasures" mission from Chapter 4.
- “Guide me better,” “Make me better,” “I shall be better,” “I still seek more,” “I seek and I find”: Cheats that activate Dead Eye Levels 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 respectively.
- “You seek more than the world offers”: This one fills the meters and fortifies Arthur's cores. However, activating this cheat will require the players to buy a newspaper after completing "The King's Son" mission from Chapter 6.
- “You are a beast built for war”: This one spawns a War Horse but can only be activated after players buy a newspaper after completing the Epilogue to the game.
- “Would you be happier as a clown?”: It spawns a circus wagon into the game, but like the previous one, it requires players to buy a newspaper after completing the Epilogue to the game.
- “You want everyone to go away”: This cheat is sort of reminiscent of the quite common cheat from Grand Theft Auto Vice City, known as "LEAVEMEALONE", in the sense that it drops Arthur's wanted level.
But this raises the question: how exactly does one activate Red Dead Redemption 2 cheats? Well, it is quite simple actually. As it so happens, RDR2 has a dedicated console for cheats which is present in the Settings menu. Players just need to access the Settings tab from the Main Menu, where they will find the option to access the cheat console present at the bottom right corner of the window. Now, this will present them with a list, which will be empty unless the player has used cheats in the game before. If not, then they just need to click on any of the empty slots to activate one. However, they should note that activating cheats in the game will disable the trophies and achievements, so they should try these out after completing the game once.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PS4 and Xbox One.
