Back in 2018, Red Dead Redemption 2 was released to near-universal critical acclaim and sold very well for the publisher. The following year, its online mode, Red Dead Redemption Online officially launched. While it never managed to achieve the same levels of popularity as Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto Online, it has nonetheless developed a dedicated fan base that has remained loyal to the game to this day.
Despite having launched three years ago, players are still sharing their goofy antics in the game. One of the more recent videos shows Red Dead Redemption Online players engaging in a dangerous leap of trust exercise involving players jumping off a bridge. Modders still add their own updates to the game, which includes a new single-player experience. Now, other gamers are clamoring for something a bit more over the top in the online mode.
Despite Rockstar confirming that development on Red Dead Redemption Online was winding down, gamers are still clamoring for more content. In a recent post, Reddit user butternutsquash4u commented in the Red Dead Redemption group that Rockstar should include gatling gun horses in the game. Below the comment was a GIF of a horse with gatling guns on both of its sides from the 2010 film Jonah Hex film. Dozens of comments on the post agreed with the original poster.
As mentioned above, Red Dead Redemption Online never quite took off the way Grand Theft Auto Online did. Whereas the number of updates and pieces of DLC for GTA Online is too numerous to count, the number of major content updates for Red Dead Redemption Online clocks in at around eight. Additional content and updates for the game were sadly scaled back as Rockstar began pumping more resources into Grand Theft Auto 6.
When Rockstar officially confirmed this to be the case, Red Dead Online fans mourned for the online mode and shared their disappointment with the news. Earlier this month, RedDeadFuneral began to trend as players prepared for Red Dead Online's inevitable end. Even more upsetting for some fans was the fact that the developers announced yet another GTA Online update less than two weeks after the announcement. Many fans, however, still want Red Dead Online to continue and, as posts like this show, the audience for it is there. Perhaps one day the studio will listen and give fans a horse with gatling guns.
Red Dead Online is available on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
