Reanimal is the first original IP from developer Tarsier Studios since Little Nightmares and Little Nightmares 2. Now that Tarsier Studios no longer has control over the Little Nightmares franchise, a fresh story is ready to be told. Reanimal boasts the same cute, but grotesque, imagery of Little Nightmares, but this time around, Tarsier Studios is aiming for even darker with its story.
Right now, there isn't a lot known about Reanimal apart from what Tarsier Studios has confirmed through its Steam page and trailers. The game's description on Steam reads, "In this co-op horror adventure game, you play as a brother and sister who go through hell to rescue their missing friends." The key word to make note of is "co-op", as it promises a fun shake-up to the Tarsier Studios formula. Even better, though, is that the game's co-op focus makes it a great offering for the Switch 2.
2025 Could Be a Huge Year for 'Cute' Horror Games
Horror comes in many forms, and 2025 might end up being home to a bevy of games that are both adorable and unsettling in equal measure.
Reanimal's Co-Op Gameplay Could Be a Great Fit For the Switch 2's Co-Op Features
Every Co-Op Feature Confirmed For the Switch So Far
- The updated Joy-Con 2 controllers retain the first Switch's easy local co-op
- The mysterious "C" button on the Joy-Con 2s has been confirmed to be GameChat.
- GameShare lets the owner of a game share it with a fellow player, even if the latter doesn't own a copy themselves.
- Compatible USB-C cameras can also allow video chat.
There were a lot of exciting reveals about the Switch 2 during the recent Nintendo Direct event, and one of the most compelling was the company's apparent embrace of co-op gameplay. Of course, Nintendo has a history of co-op games, but these new features that have been integrated into the Switch 2 are an exciting upgrade.
Since Reanimal is centered around a co-op adventure, it only makes sense for the game to be set for a Switch 2 launch. The game has officially been confirmed for the new console, and if teamwork is of the upmost importance when playing, then Switch 2 players may have a great time with Reanimal. Having a more efficient way to communicate with one's friends through GameChat or by sharing one's screen can really make the overall experience far more enjoyable.
Tarsier Studios may not be making Little Nightmares anymore, but Little Nightmares 3 is still happening. Supermassive Games is developing the chapter, which is also taking a co-op approach.
Despite its cute elements, Reanimal looks like it's also filled with plenty of scares, so players having the ability to talk with one another through the game's most harrowing moments is a must. Over the years, playing with friends online has become the norm in many co-op games, so it's great that Nintendo is embracing the status quo.
In this co-op horror adventure game, you play as a brother and sister who go through hell to rescue their missing friends.
Although the inclusion of GameChat is exciting, it's only free for a limited time. After March 2026, players will need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to use the feature.
The Switch 2 Could Be a Great Option For Co-Op Lovers
- The Switch 2 launches on June 5.
- The console is priced at $450. A Switch 2 bundle that includes Mario Kart World can also be purchased for $500.
The various co-op features confirmed for the Switch 2 could make it one of the best consoles to experience multiplayer games. Confirmed titles like Mario Kart World, Split Fiction, and FromSoftware's The Duskbloods demonstrate that Nintendo might be aiming specifically for the co-op crowd this time around.
Once the console launches, it will be exciting to see how these new co-op features are received by users. With the launch of the Switch 2 imminent, Reanimal hopefully confirms a release date soon, so co-op lovers can officially add a new game to their wish list.
