After two years, Hi-Rez Studios' battle royale game, Realm Royale, has received an update. Hi-Rez Studios developed the successful multiplayer games Smite and Paladins, both of which have received many updates while Realm Royale fans have waited a long time for new content to come to the game. The time has finally come.
Realm Royale is a third-person hero shooter like Rogue Company and from the same developer, but unlike that game, it is a battle royale set in a fantasy world with a lot of comedic concepts, such as players turning into chickens after being defeated. Realm Royale: Reforged brings not only some new things to the game, but sees the return of elements of the game that had been removed, which many players have wanted back for a long time. Armor, which was one of the first things removed from the game years ago, can be found in many chests throughout the battle royale game's map and gives the players some advantages, such as increasing reload speed and cooldown reduction.
Class-specific abilities have also returned to the Paladins spin-off, making the class that players choose to play as more important. In the past, players could swap the abilities they had at the start of the game with any other type of ability of its kind, as long as it wasn't weaker than what they already had equipped. However, there are now abilities that only specific classes can use. While Warriors, Mages, and Assassins can use the same Movement Abilities they've always had at the start of matches prior to this update, Hunters have been given a new Movement Ability, Grapple Hook, which allows them to sling through the air. Classes now has specific Combat Abilities they can use as well.
Assassins can use Decoy, sending a clone of them out into the battle. Warriors can equip Enrage, which increases their Attack Speed, Life Steal, and the amount of damage they deal to opponents. Mages can use Fireball, shooting fire at their enemies. Hunters were unfortunately not given a class-specific Combat Ability, but the brand-new Lightfoot Potion is a Combat Ability that can be used by any class. Lightfoot Potion increases the players' speed, as well as their height when they jump. Players used to only be able to equip one Combat Ability at a time, but they can now have two.
Hi-Rez Studios also added some weapons that can only be used by specific classes. Warriors can wield Throwing Axes and Long Swords, Hunters can hold Longbows and Crossbows, Mages have mastered Fire and Ice Staffs, and Assassins are able to use Sniper and Heirloom Rifles.
Hi-Rez Studios revealed that it is already working on more things to add and improve to Realm Royale every six weeks, and that this update is just a small piece of all that is to come, so it will hopefully be able to compete with similar games like Fortnite. Currently, developers are working on improving Realm Royale's servers and will listen to players' feedback on social media. In addition, the developers also gave those that have played the game prior to this update a lot of cosmetics, including OG skins and avatars for each class.
Realm Royale is available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
