Realm of Ink isn't a callous roguelike that throws the player into the fray of battle right off the gate. Well, technically it does, but it gives the player a cute companion to soften the blow and make the journey a lot easier.
Momo, the player's Inkpet with a mysterious background, has many forms that it can assume depending on the Ink Gems that you're currently sporting. Each of these forms has common and special skills that are unlocked depending on the player's ink gems.
Best Games With Almost Infinite Replayability
Some games are meant to be played once, others are meant to be played forever. These titles are infinitely replayable.
What Do Inkpet Skills Do In Realm of Ink
There are two types of Inkpet Skills in Realm of Ink, i.e., common and special skills. The common skills are passive and are activated on their own. Meanwhile, special skills are activated by the player. As players get stronger on their journey, so too does their Inkpet, gaining these skills.
The form of your Inkpet is dictated by the combination of ink gems in your inventory. Their passives are unlocked as soon as you get two ink gems, but the special skills are locked, only getting unlocked once you upgrade the gems to a certain level. By default, special skills are activated by pressing "1" and appear next to the player's health bar at the bottom of the screen.
How to Unlock The Special Inkpet Skill in Realm of Ink
To unlock the special Inkpet skill, which is the active skill players can use by pressing "1," you need to reach a higher tier for your Inkpet. To do so, players need to upgrade their ink gem using ink stones, such that both ink gems are epic, or one is legendary, and the other is rare. Once this condition is met, the Inkpet reaches the appropriate level, and its active skill gets unlocked.
It costs 80 Ink stones to upgrade rare stones to epic, and 160 stones to upgrade rare ink gems to legendary. So, it costs the same total stones to get two epic stones or one legendary stone.
To upgrade ink gems, players need to interact with Grace, the Ink Gem Sage, and spend their hard-earned ink stones. She is found in the shop area that appears before every boss. The ink gems that players upgrade don't stay between runs, getting destroyed once the player dies and returns to their hub world.
