Ada's Grapple Gun, introduced in Separate Ways, not only expanded the franchise's battle mechanics but also showcased its versatility beyond traversal. In addition to using the gun to navigate obstacles, Ada demonstrated its combat utility by grappling to stunned enemies and delivering head kicks. However, the RE4 Remake's DLC holds a secret function for the Grappling Gun: Shield Removal. In this guide, fans of Separate Ways will discover how to effectively rip shields away from enemies, exposing their vulnerable spots.
How to Get the Shield Grapple Ability
To rip shields away from enemies, players will need to purchase the Ada Wong (Special) charm. The attache case charm can be bought from the end-game Merchant spots for five Spinels. And it grants the shield-ripping ability to Ada.
When lacking its charm, Ada's Grapple Gun serves primarily for melee attacks against unarmored foes. Nevertheless, with the attachment equipped, she gains the ability to target enemies with shields and disarm them, making it easier to take them down.

How to Activate the Shield-Rip Skill
After purchasing the Ada Wong (Special) charm, interact with a typewriter and head to the Customize Case section. From here, locate and equip the charm to enable Ada’s “Shield Grapple” ability.
Note that purchasing the charm alone won’t activate the skill. Players will need to manually attach it to their case to unlock the power.
How to Grapple Shields
To remove enemy shields, players need to press the A button (Square on PlayStation) when the “Grapple Shield” prompt shows up over their heads. This action will rip away the enemies' shields, leaving them vulnerable to further attacks.
To effectively utilize this skill, players need to be in proximity to the shielded enemies. However, unlike Grappling Melee attacks, ripping away shields does not necessitate stunning the enemies beforehand.
Disarming enemies of their shields does not render them defenseless. They will still be capable of attacking players using their other weapons. Additionally, it's worth mentioning that after removing the shields, Ada will not lunge at the enemy as in Grappling Melee attacks. Instead, her shield removal action briefly stuns enemies for a few seconds.
