Following Housemarque's release of Returnal, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart  looks to be PlayStation's second major exclusive to hit the platform this year, making its way to PS5 on June 11. The sequel throws Ratchet and Clank into a new adventure, seeing the pair travel to a parallel dimension in an attempt to stop the evil Doctor Nefarious from conquering the universe.

Insomniac Games revealed today that Rift Apart  has officially gone gold, confirming the game is in a finished state and ready to launch next month. The announcement was made via the company's Twitter page and was accompanied by a fun animation of new protagonist Rivet admiring a giant golden bolt.

It seems Ratchet and Clank  fans are one step closer to getting their hands on the latest iteration of the long-running PlayStation franchise, which will introduce plenty of fun new additions to the series. The most notable is likely the addition of Rivet, who is an alternate-universe counterpart of Ratchet. The character has already found a lot of love online and looks to be an entertaining addition to Ratchet and Clank's cast of colorful characters.

Other fun new ideas include the ability to seamlessly hop through portals using the PlayStation 5's lightning-fast load times and an array of fresh and suitably wacky weapons. A recent gameplay trailer showed off a decent number of these new additions to Rift Apart's  arsenal, including the grenade-firing Shatter Bomb and the Topiary Sprinkler, which allows Rivet to transform enemies into immobile plants.

Alongside new weapons, there are some big changes to the series' traversal mechanics, including wall-running and dashing. During Sony's recent State of Play broadcastRift Apart's  creative director Marcus Smith claimed that this sense of improved mobility will be a big part of the game, stating that players will be able to "chain moves together to create exhilarating combos." It looks to add some fun new ways to interact with the franchise's traditional platforming segments.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart  is one of the first of many PlayStation 5 exclusives slated to launch later this year, with the lineup currently including Horizon: Forbidden West, Deathloop, Ghostwire Tokyo, Kena: Bridge of Spirits,  Stray, Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade,  and more. Rift Apart  will be Insomniac's second game on the next-generation console, with the team releasing Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales  back at the console's launch. That game acted as a standalone expansion to the team's work on the original Marvel's Spider-Man  back in 2018, seeing Miles Morales suit up for a new adventure, battling against villains like The Tinkerer and The Prowler.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart  will release on June 11 for PlayStation 5.
