Sega Atlus has unveiled its collector's edition of Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army in collaboration with Limited Run Games, and its price may be tough to swallow. Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army is a remaster of the 2006 Shin Megami Tensei spinoff originally titled Devil Summoner - Raidou Kuzunoha Vs. The Soulless Army. The original was one of the only real-time combat games in Atlus' larger Shin Megami Tensei franchise, and seeing that not many gamers played the original, Raidou Remastered will almost act as an all-new Atlus game for newer fans of the beloved JRPG studio.
Rising game prices have been a major concern for gamers over the past few months, as the jump up to $70 from $60 for AAA games only occurred just a couple of years ago around the launch of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S consoles. Last month's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct exacerbated these fears, with the new console's launch title, Mario Kart World, being priced at $80, and the rumored threat of some physical Switch 2 games even jumping up to $90. Xbox also just confirmed big price hikes for consoles and accessories across the board, and many gamers also fear the potential for Rockstar Games' upcoming blockbuster Grand Theft Auto 6 to be marked up to $100 just for the standard edition, though this hasn't been legitimized.

Limited Run Games has revealed its collector's edition of Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army and its hefty $250 price tag has gamers scratching their heads. The crown jewels of the package are an eight-inch Raidou Kuzunoha statue and a six-inch Gouto-Douji plush. An alternate foil game cover, a steelbook, the game's soundtrack, a Raidou enamel pin, and an 8X10-inch lithograph of the game's cover art are also included. Those who preorder the collector's edition will receive a digital DLC bonus that lets players give Raidou glasses, and the package comes with a certificate of authenticity. Preorders for the collector's edition began on May 5 and will run until June 1.
Raidou Remastered's Limited Run Collector's Edition is $250
Many believe $250 is an astronomically high price point for the remaster of a very niche PS2-era game. However, considering this collector's edition includes two big-ticket items in the Raidou statue and the plushie, the pricing does make slightly more sense. One also has to take into account how popular Atlus has become since 2006. When Persona 5 released to universal praise, Atlus has become one of the most well-known and celebrated JRPG studios with sales to match, as its Persona 3 Reload remake sold a million copies in its first week, and new IP Metaphor: ReFantazio broke records for Atlus, hitting a million copies sold on its first day and becoming a favorite for 2024's Game of the Year.
Atlus games of all shapes and sizes have become a huge deal, and there will undoubtedly be more fanfare surrounding Raidou Remastered this time around than there was back in 2006. Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army is set for release next month, on June 19, for Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC. Thankfully, for those who don't want to shell out $250 for Raidou Remastered' s collector's edition, the standard edition costs a much lighter $50.
