Summary

  • Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will feature iconic schools and stadiums from the Wizarding World books aside from Hogwarts.
  • The game includes Beauxbatons and Durmstrang with unique arenas, though it has yet to be revealed which characters from those schools will be added.
  • Players can compete in career mode or play with friends on various platforms starting September 3, with a Nintendo Switch release date still pending.

Matches in Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions won't be confined to the field outside Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. New footage from the upcoming game shows that Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will feature a couple of other schools made famous by the Wizarding World books, movies, and other media.

The sport of quidditch involves players flying around a stadium on broomsticks and scoring points by tossing balls through hoops or trying to catch the evasive Golden Snitch. While there have already been plenty of Harry Potter-themed games released across the years, there hasn't been an official one that focuses solely on the fictional sport since 2003's Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup. That's soon to change this fall, as Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is set for release on September 3, bringing familiar faces from the original cast back for the most famous sport in the Wizarding World.

The two other schools joining the lineup will be Beauxbatons Academy of Magic and Durmstrang Institute, as shown off in a new trailer released on August 8. Introduced to the franchise in the year 2000 with the release of the novel Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the magical schools from France and northern Scandanavia, respectively, sent representatives Fleur Delacour and quidditch prodigy Viktor Krum to compete against Harry and fellow Hogwarts student Cedric Diggory in the Tri-Wizard Tournament. The two new stadiums are presented featuring many of the schools' qualities described in the novels and shown off in the films, with Beaubatons' arena covered in flowery adornments and bright blue banners and Durmstrang's taking place over a dark, frigid sea and decorated with Norse imagery.

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions Will Feature Beaubatons and Durmstrang

While the new trailer shows off all three arenas, including the one at Hogwarts that's been featured in all previous trailers, it leaves the question of whether any familiar characters from either of the other schools will be playable in the game. Previous releases have already shown that Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will include different playable characters from the movies and books, all of whom have been seen playing on their respective Hogwarts houses' quidditch teams, like the Weasley brothers, Cho Chang, and Draco Malfoy. Krum played quidditch during his school years and later went on to become seeker for the Bulgarian national team, but beyond that, no quidditch action has been shown off from either school in any other form of media, so it's uncertain which characters could fill up their teams.

While the release of the new quidditch game is less than a month away, not all players will be able to access it at the same time. PlayStation, Xbox, and PC users will be able to fly into action on September 3, but the launch date for the Nintendo Switch version of Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions has yet to be announced.
