Summary

  • Fisk declares martial law on New York City, leading to chaos and danger for masked vigilantes and citizens alike.
  • Frank, aka. The Punisher, is loose and potentially teaming up with Daredevil against Fisk.
  • Daredevil faces challenges as he navigates his lawyer identity, potential allies, and a city held hostage by Fisk.

Daredevil was the first Marvel show released on Netflix, running for three seasons and ending in 2018. After a Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock cameo in Spider-Man: No way Home, Daredevil finally reappeared in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law in 2022, which got fans excited for the possibility of seeing him more in MCU content. This year, he also appeared in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, with Charlie Cox providing his voice, even though this cartoon takes place in a different timeline.

But at long last, Daredevil has his own show again with Daredevil: Born Again. It's not a one-off season either, as filming for season 2 is already underway, and there are a lot of questions left hanging in the air after the finale. Here are all the plot threads left dangling at the end of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1.

Spoilers Ahead for Netflix's Daredevil and Daredevil: Born Again

6 Can Matt Resume His Job As A Lawyer?

Daredevil Forever

Daredevil in Daredevil Born Again

After Matt takes a bullet for Fisk, one would think Fisk would be grateful. Instead, he sends an assassin to kill Matt in the hospital, which goes poorly. Thankfully, Frank, aka. The Punisher, comes in to help stop a bunch of rogue cops from trying to finish the job.

It seems like Matt can no longer practice his legal career, as Fisk will probably continue to try to kill him. He cannot return to his apartment anytime soon, either, and has to hide in the shadows. While this season of Daredevil: Born Again was somewhat devoid of Daredevil, next season may be nothing but Daredevil, because it seems like he is trapped in this identity until he can put an end to Fisk’s reign of terror.

5 Did Frank Escape His Cell?

The Punisher Is Loose

Frank in Daredevil Born Again

Daredevil: Born Again could have easily killed Frank to make a statement that this series is not messing around. They did prove that in the show’s opening though, with Foggy’s assassination, but putting down The Punisher would have been a much stronger message. Thankfully for fans, the cops do not kill Frank, as he is shown in the final scene caged in a secret dungeon within Fisk’s compound.

There are several other characters there as well, including Jack, aka. Swordsman. While Frank is not shown escaping his cage, he does presumably kill a guard and perhaps grabs his keys as well. Will Frank immediately start killing in this dungeon, or will he be smart, rescue Jack and the others, and then make his escape to rendezvous with Daredevil again?

4 What Is The State Of New York City?

Who Is In Danger?

Fisk in Daredevil Born Again

The ending of Season 1 spells big things to come in the MCU as Fisk declares martial law in New York City. There is a curfew, cops seemingly have more power than ever, and masked vigilantes will be arrested or killed on sight. Does Fisk see a difference between a masked vigilante like Daredevil and other superpowered heroes like The Hulk or Captain America?

While Avengers Campus has moved out of NYC, the Sanctum Sanctorum remains, and Spider-Man is presumably still active as well. Do these characters make Fisk's hit list as well? What of the military and the rest of the United States? Can Fisk really get away with holding a city hostage in a world filled with heroes? Ms. Marvel and Kate Bishop should be close by, too, and could easily help Daredevil bring an end to Fisk.

3 What Happened To Angela?

The White Tiger Rises Again

Angela in Daredevil Born Again

Hector was introduced in Daredevil: Born Again as White Tiger, a superpowered masked hero who draws power from the subtly-named Amulet of Power. Matt helps him get out of jail through a series of trials, for which he is happy at first, but Hector gets gunned down shortly after his hearing. Angela, Hector’s niece, is angry at Matt for not doing more to help her uncle.

Angela takes things into her own hands and gets kidnapped by Muse in the process. Daredevil saves her, and it seems like things will be alright for Angela, but a bigger question emerges. Will Angela put on the mask and the Amulet of Power to become the next White Tiger?

2 Will Bullseye Become An Ally?

The Enemy Of My Enemy

Bullseye in Daredevil Born Again

Bullseye is the villain who kills Foggy in the opening of Daredevil: Born Again. Daredevil tries to kill him, but Bullseye survives and gets thrown in jail instead. Toward the end of the season, he escapes and tries to kill Fisk at his inaugural ball, but that’s the bullet that Matt takes for Fisk.

The Daredevil television series has given fans a handful of memorable fight scenes. These are the best the show has offered.

After that, Bullseye makes his retreat and is seen in an unknown apartment in the final minutes of the season. It’s unknown what Bullseye will do next. Will he go after Fisk again? It’s easy to see Bullseye and The Punisher teaming up since they have no qualms about killing. Can Daredevil put his differences with Bullseye aside long enough to save NYC? That’s the bigger question.

1 What Army Was Daredevil Talking About?

Literal Or Figurative?

Karen in Daredevil Born Again

Toward the end of season one, Daredevil decides not to go after Fisk, seemingly cementing that things would have to wait until season two to wrap up, as he was injured. He tells Karen that he has to play this smart if he wants to take Fisk down, explaining that they need an army.

Did Daredevil mean that literally, as in he needs more bodies to rush Fisk’s compound? Or did he mean it figuratively, as in he needs the citizens of NYC to see that Fisk is lying? The cops are of no use to Daredevil as he doesn’t know who he can trust, and he certainly cannot prosecute Fisk because the law overall is corrupt and likely backing Fisk. Maybe then, through citizen protests, Daredevil can make a difference. Of course, if he meant he needed a literal army, then there are plenty of Marvel heroes around NYC, like the aforementioned Ms. Marvel and Kate Bishop.
