There have been rumors of there being a new Quake game for the last couple of months now. The latest, in fact, came from a leaked description of a panel at the QuakeCon event that starts later today, which could suggest that this new game could be a remake or remaster of the original. Now, some believe that even more evidence of an announcement at the event has been discovered.

Not only that, but a fan on the Quake subreddit has noticed that the beta branch for the first Quake game received a new update on Steam recently. Considering QuakeCon starts later today at 2pm ET, this could mean that this supposed game announcement will happen during the event’s first day. At the very least, it’s possible that there will be some kind of announcement related to the first game. If not, there is another panel titled Let's talk Quake planned for August 20th at 10:30am.

In fact, according to the event schedule, one of the first panels taking place will be celebrating the series' 25th anniversary, since the first game released in 1996. This makes it the perfect place for id Software, the studio responsible for multiple Quake games including the first one, to make such an announcement. This panel is scheduled for 2:05pm.

Rumors of there being another Quake in development began back in June, although interestingly, it was initially described as a full-on reboot of the Quake series rather than a remake or remaster. The rumor added that it would be developed by id Software, with MachineGames (the studio behind the Wolfenstein games) assisting, and feature a female protagonist.

As always with these sorts of things, it’s best to treat it as purely speculation and wait for official confirmation from id Software and/or Bethesda. At the very least, fans don’t have to wait much longer for the event to begin.

Even if there is no big Quake announcement, fans still have plenty to enjoy from QuakeCon. There are many other panels planned and they will cover several of Bethesda’s games, such as Doom Eternal, The Elder Scrolls Online, and the upcoming Deathloop, which is releasing next month.
