PlayerUnknonw's Battlegrounds is approaching its sixth season of content but season 6 of PUBG isn't just another round of new customizations and a battle pass. PUBG Corp. Is making some big changes and is adding a lot of great new content, too. In a new announcement, PUBG Corp. Revealed that Season 6 will start with the addition of a brand new 2x2 map and a Black Zone feature, which appears to be a form of targeted missile strike.
The biggest addition of Season 6 will be its brand new map named Karakin. Karakin is an open desert-based map and will be available in patch 6.1 alongside the start of Season 6. Karakin is full of deteriorating building and walls, bunkers, and industrial debris. Fitting its crumbling state, Karakin will feature several interesting new environmental destruction features. These include brick wall breach points in specific locations, bullet penetration in specific walls, and what looks to be actual destructible buildings.
Whether there will be actual destructible buildings isn't wholly clear. It ties into the new Black Zone feature, which is likely a type of Red Zone exclusive to the new Karakin map. During the trailer, a Black Zone missile hits a building and tears down a good part of it. It's possible the building isn't actually falling and instead rubble is dynamically created overlaying the building. It's also possible the Black Zone destroys parts of some buildings, but not everything. PUBG players will have to experiment with the feature to find out more.
In addition to Karakin and the addition of the Black Zone at the start of Season 6, PUBG Corp. Says it has plans for later in the season, too. These plans include the new Panzerfaust rocket launcher, plus a new way to interact with the Black Zone. There's no word on what that Black Zone interaction will be, though.
Lastly, Season 6 will come with its new battle pass. Survivor Pass: Shakedown launches alongside Season 6 and will include a variety of outfits, weapon skins, and more. Season 6 will launch on PC starting January 22, which is just a week away. It'll arrive on consoles "shortly after," but no specific date is provided. In the meantime, PUBG Corp. Has put patch 6.1 content, including the new map, onto PUBG's PC test server.
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is available now on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
