A number of Japanese media outlets and YouTubers were recently invited to a hands-on demo with the soon-to-be released PS5. The event resulted in the Japanese media publishing detailed photos of the PS5’s hardware, as well as gameplay demos of PS5-exclusive titles like Godfall and Astro’s Playroom, but Sony barred attendees from playing with the PS5's most mysterious feature: its user interface.

According to Dengeki Online, one of the Japanese publications that got to play with the PS5, Sony intentionally barred any sneak peaks of the console’s UI by not allowing the attendees of its media event to open the system’s menus. Sony also blocked the DualSense’s Create button from being used, so fans are still in the dark about what the button will do.

While Sony continues to keep the PS5’s UI a secret, that has not stopped fans from speculating about what the next-gen UI will look like. Last month, a Reddit user created a PS5 UI concept by evolving the style of the PS4 UI to its logical conclusion. But if the UI images that were leaked a few days ago are authentic, then the PS5’s UI looks to be more similar to the PS3 than the PS4. Sony has said that the PS5’s dashboard will be completely redesigned, with “no pixel untouched.”

Even though the Japanese media did not get to play with the PS5’s UI, they were still able to release detailed photos of the PS5’s hardware. Japanese Media also reported a small latch hidden inside the top right corner of the console. Many fans have speculated that this could be an SSD slot that allows players to expand the PS5’s storage.

With the PS5’s release date quickly approaching, Sony is likely to officially reveal the console’s UI soon. If it doesn't, which seems unlikely, fans only have to wait 38 more days to play the console and to see the new UI for themselves.

The PS5 releases November 12.
