Christmas-themed horror game Christmas Massacre is coming to PlayStation consoles on November 17, but the game is apparently "too crazy" to release on Nintendo Switch or Xbox. Some horror game fans may find this development unexpected, especially since other horror games from the same developer are readily available across all platforms.

Christmas Massacre is developed by Puppet Combo, a developer known for genuinely scary horror games that use a creepy, PS1-inspired art style. While Puppet Combo's games are perhaps best known by PC gamers, some of its titles have been released on home consoles. In fact, Nun Massacre, Murder House, and Stay Out of the House have all been ported to PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox. Xbox and Switch gamers that are fans of Puppet Combo's work may be disappointed to learn that Christmas Massacre is going to be a PlayStation console exclusive.

New PS5 First-Person Horror Game Has a Mythological Twist

A first-person survival horror game with a mythological twist confirms its plans to launch on PlayStation 5 starting next year.

Christmas Massacre, originally released on PC in December 2021, is making its console debut on November 17, 2023 on PlayStation consoles, skipping Xbox and Switch entirely. According to Puppet Combo on Twitter, this is because the game is simply "too crazy" for Xbox and Nintendo. Reading between the lines, it seems Xbox and Nintendo rejected the game for its content. True to its name, Christmas Massacre is a game about going on a murder spree, with players taking on the role of a disturbed individual named Larry, whose Christmas tree has told him to kill people.

Christmas Massacre PS5 Release Date

  • Friday, November 17

Most horror games put players in the roles of victims or heroes, but Christmas Massacre is the rare exception. As Larry, the player's goal is to kill everyone in each level without being caught, so the game blends the stealth and horror genres together. It has serious Manhunt vibes, so fans of that highly controversial Rockstar Games title may especially want to give it a look. Christmas Massacre may also appeal to fans of 80s slasher movies, as long as they can stomach its gruesome subject matter, that is.

With Christmas Massacre putting players in the role of a killer going on a murderous rampage, it may not be all that surprising that Xbox and Nintendo opted out of hosting the game on their storefront. Horror game fans interested in Christmas Massacre may be disappointed if the game isn't coming to their platform of choice, but the good news is that there are stilly plenty of horror games to check out on Xbox and Switch.
