PlayStation fans are hungrily waiting for more news about the PS5 from Sony. Most recently, Sony took the stage at CES 2020 and revealed the logo for the PS5. It wasn't what fans wanted, but it also made clear that Sony had bigger plans in mind than CES 2020. While those plans are yet to be officially announced, rumors are swirling about a February PlayStation Meeting. With that in mind, a new leak is lending further credence to the February PlayStation Meeting rumor.
An anonymous leak on the 4chan imageboard revealed an off-screen photo of what is claimed to be Assassin's Creed Ragnarok. Assassin's Creed Ragnarok is the rumored title of the 2020 Assassin's Creed game Ubisoft has confirmed is on the way. In this leak, it's said that Assassin's Creed Ragnarok will be unveiled at the upcoming PlayStation event. Specifically, it says that the game will be announced at the Sony event on February 12.
This isn't the first time February 12 has been mentioned as the date of the upcoming PS5 reveal event. In August 2019, an anonymous leaker claimed that a PlayStation marketing email confirmed a February 12 PS5 reveal event. The leak claimed that Sony was inviting third-party partners like Activision, EA, Square Enix, and Ubisoft to share news about upcoming events at the show. Both the PS5's reveal and Ghost of Tsushima are planned to be showcased at the event.
For comparison's sake, the PS4 was also unveiled during one of Sony's PlayStation Meeting events. The PS4 was officially announced on February 20, 2013, during a PlayStation Meeting. Several in-development games were shown and hardware details about the console were discussed. The console itself was not shown until E3 2013 in June, though. The PS4 would end up being launched in November later that year. It's possible the PS5 could mirror this schedule, but by no means is it a certainty.
By no means is a PlayStation Meeting or a February 12 date a sure thing. These rumors stem from anonymous leaks, making them highly unreliable. Yet the rumors' consistency alongside how rational they seem lends them some credence. Details about the PS5 are certain to be shared soon. February 12 makes as much sense as anything. If the rumors are true, expect Sony to confirm them in the next few weeks.
The PS5 releases in late 2020.
