Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially released two new console covers (or faceplate) and DualSense controller colors for the PlayStation 5 under its Deep Earth Collection. SIE announced the PS5's Deep Earth Collection during its latest State of Play to expand its PS5 faceplate offerings.

The PS5, despite its aesthetic, doesn't have the most noteworthy design as far as some in the gaming community are concerned; it only has a two-tone white and black color scheme. However, its removable faceplate allows PS5 gamers to customize/personalize the console with other colors and designs. SIE (and third-party companies like CustomizeMyPlates) eventually capitalized on this interest, releasing various faceplate colors and designs for PS5 gamers to choose from. SIE also announced it's adding three more faceplate colors through its Deep Earth Collection for the PS5 during its Sony State of Play on September 14, with two of the three colors in the collection being available on November 3. The company later opened pre-orders for it in early October.

Recently, the company announced on Twitter that the Deep Earth Collection's Volcanic Red and Cobalt Blue are now available for PS5 gamers to purchase. A quick look at the online PS Store confirms SIE's announcement, with both faceplates having a metallic finish and a $59.99 price tag. SIE design team member Leo Cardoso previously said the Volcanic Red faceplate features "a rich blazing red tone," and the Cobalt Blue faceplate presents "a deep shade of blue with intriguing hints of purple." Fellow design team member Satoshi Aoyagi said the design team drew inspiration from the hues found in Earth's depths for the Cobalt Blue faceplate.

New PS5 Faceplate Colors Now Available For Purchase

To complete the look, SIE also released PS5 DualSense controllers bearing the same colors as the two faceplates. However, the former doesn't come with the latter - they're a separate purchase, with either controller costing $74.99. Meanwhile, the remaining color in the Deep Earth Collection, Sterling Silver, and its corresponding DualSense controller won't be available for PS5 gamers to purchase until January 26, 2024. However, PS5 gamers can still pre-order the Sterling Silver faceplate and corresponding DualSense controller for the same price as their Cobalt Blue and Volcanic Red counterparts.

The release of two of the three colors of SIE's Deep Earth Collection for the PS5 is a boon for gamers on the platform. Before SIE announced the Deep Earth Collection, it only offered five faceplate colors and two designs to PS5 gamers. However, time will tell if the faceplates in the Deep Earth Collection will be available for Sony's upcoming PS5 Slim, which could hit store shelves sometime this month.
