The summer of 2022 is already shaping up to be a busy one in the world of video games with many different developers and companies revealing different announcements and hosting showcases. In the midst of all of that, PlayStation's new tiers for PlayStation Plus go live today, June 13. The PlayStation Plus subscription service is almost twelve years old and has been in dire need of a refresh to keep up with similar subscription models on the market, especially that of Xbox's Game Pass.To subscribe to the subscription, users need to select a tier and pay as usual on a PS4, PS5, or on a PC browser. The first tier, PlayStation Plus Essential, is the same PlayStation Plus as before. However, the two higher tiers of the service, PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium, include a massive catalog of first and third-party titles, with the Premium tier including many more perks. Fans can look forward to more backwards compatibility, a host of games from previous PlayStation consoles to play, exclusive discounts for different games, add-ons and expansions, online multiplayer gaming, and a myriad of other features once they subscribe to PlayStation Plus. The competition of subscription services is a blessing for fans everywhere, as it seems that it fosters the upgrading of said services and ushers in more features and games.
