  • PS Plus Extra & Premium offer Dead Island 2 in October 2024, and there is no better time for new players to jump in.
  • Dead Island 2 is getting a New Game Plus mode with Patch 6.
  • Dead Island 2 is introducing the Neighborhood Watch horde mode with Patch 6.

PS Plus Extra and Premium have been outperforming the service's Essential tier for several months now, offering subscribers some noteworthy titles to add to their library. October 2024 is no different for PS Plus Extra and Premium, as its headlining game is none other than Dambuster Studios' Dead Island 2, and it couldn't have arrived at a better time.

Despite garnering an average reception from critics, Dead Island 2 was one of the biggest surprises of 2023, primarily due to it being a sequel that came 13 years after the original Dead Island and the high-quality experience it offered players. It didn't reinvent the wheel, likely resulting in a poorer reception than it might have received otherwise, but its gameplay and visuals were enough to leave its mark on one of the best years in gaming. Now, Dead Island 2 has made its way to PS Plus Extra for October 2024, and it couldn't be a better time for new players to jump in due to its impending "Patch 6" update set to launch on October 22.

Dead Island 2 Came to PS Plus Extra at the Perfect Time

The Long-Awaited New Game Plus Mode Is Finally Coming to Dead Island 2

From its April 2023 launch, Dead Island 2 has been without a New Game Plus mode, which is a shame considering there is so much the game could do with one. However, at long last, Dead Island 2 will finally be receiving a New Game Plus mode with the release of Patch 6 on October 22, and it isn't coming empty-handed. When players begin a New Game Plus in Dead Island 2, they will also receive three additional skill slots, an increased level cap, new skins and weapons, an increased difficulty, and even new zombies to slay. All in all, it's a weighed-down version of the popular game mode and should keep players busy for quite some time.

The current level cap for Dead Island 2 is Level 30, and it's unclear what the new level cap will be after Patch 6, as well as which skill trees will receive the three additional slots.

Dead Island 2 Is Introducing Its New 'Neighborhood Watch' Horde Mode

Dead Island 2's Neighborhood Watch is a brand-new co-op horde mode set to arrive on October 22 with Patch 6. Rather than playing as one of the Slayers from Dead Island 2's base game, players control various members of the Bobcats, a group of college kids who were left behind during the initial evacuation of Los Angeles. The Bobcats consist of three different classes for players to choose from before beginning their Neighborhood Watch adventure — the Chemist, the Medic, and the Hunter.

Bonesaw and Medstation

Crossbow and Spicy Meat-stick

As its name suggests, the Chemist class for Dead Island 2's Neighborhood Watch mode specializes in elemental damage, with the ability to set corrosive traps, throw debilitating bombs, and a signature Grenade Launcher with unique abilities. The Medic class is a support class with the ability to drop Medstations for players to take advantage of, though they can also hinder zombies' advancement to help maintain the team's advantage. Finally, the Hunter class is a heavy damage-dealing class with a Crossbow and an explosive Spicy Meat-stick, along with plenty of other ranged weapons and items.

There is no Fury mode in Neighborhood Watch and each game lasts for five in-game days, with upgrades available once a day has been completed.

It's safe to say that Dead Island 2 has been added to PS Plus Extra at the best time, with its big Patch 6 update on the horizon. Now is arguably the best time for new Dead Island 2 players to jump into the action, especially with the impending arrival of New Game Plus and the new Neighborhood Watch horde mode.
