Sony mixed things up a bit when it came to announcing the free PS Plus games for June 2020. It announced and gave away Call of Duty: WW2 free early, likely to commemorate the Memorial Day holiday in the United States, and then held off on announcing the second free PS Plus game until Thursday, which is now confirmed to be Star Wars Battlefront 2.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 leaked as a free PS Plus game thanks to an advertisement that appeared online prematurely, but fans still weren't fully convinced it would be the other free PS Plus game for June 2020. Rumors had pointed to Spider-Man being the free PS Plus game after it was showing up as such in the UK PlayStation Store. Unfortunately for those hoping to get Spider-Man for free, it appears as though that listing was just an error.
Overall, it seems like most will be happy with the free PS Plus games for June 2020. The free PS Plus games for May 2020 were met with some rather significant backlash, as fans weren't happy about getting Cities: Skylines and Farming Simulator for free. While those titles have earned decent reviews and are rated highly for their genre, there's no denying that they are niche titles with limited appeal compared to June's offerings.
While opinions may vary on Call of Duty: WW2 and Star Wars Battlefront 2, they are both still pretty big games. Both Call of Duty: WW2 and Star Wars Battlefront 2 offer single-player story campaigns, online multiplayer, and other modes for fans to try out.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 may be the more controversial pick out of the two because it's already available to EA Access subscribers and because it is well known for its big loot box controversy. However, Star Wars Battlefront 2 has come a long way since then, and in fact, the announcement that DICE wasn't releasing any new content for it prompted fans to make a petition asking the studio not to abandon the game just yet. Considering where Star Wars Battlefront 2 started, it's impressive that it was able to generate such an emotional response from its fan base.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 will be available to PlayStation Plus subscribers beginning June 2, and Call of Duty: WW2 can be downloaded now.
