PlayStation Plus subscribers signed up for the Premium tier of the service have 10 new games to play come Tuesday, May 20. The Premium tier of PlayStation Plus gives subscribers access to everything that comes with the lower tiers plus Premium-exclusive content. That means that PS Plus Premium subscribers have already been treated to the Essential tier benefits for May 2025.
The Essential tier houses the monthly free PS Plus games, which are given away on the first Tuesday of every month. The free PS Plus games for May 2025 are Ark: Survival Ascended, Balatro, and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, with Balatro proving to be the most popular of the bunch. PS Plus subscribers across all tiers have until June 2 to claim the monthly free games for their digital libraries.

One of the free PlayStation Plus games for May 2025 is proving to be a massive hit with subscribers.
The next big PS Plus update is coming on Tuesday, May 20. On that day, a new set of games will be added to the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers, with nine titles coming to Extra and one game making its way to Premium. Of course, PS Plus Premium subscribers get access to all the Extra tier games, too, so they will have 10 new titles to look forward to on May 20. On PS Plus Extra, subscribers can look forward to Battlefield 5, Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted - Full Time Edition, Gloomhaven Mercenaries Edition, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, Humankind, Sand Land, Soul Hackers 2, STALKER: Legends of the Zone Trilogy, and Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life. Most of the new PS Plus Extra games for May 2025 are playable on both PS4 and PS5, except for Soul Hackers 2 and Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life, which are PS5-only.

As far as the new Premium-exclusive addition for May 2025, subscribers can look forward to checking out Battle Engine Aquila. Battle Engine Aquila is a mech game for the PS2 that earned somewhat mixed reviews but has still developed a dedicated fanbase. It's unclear if this version of the game will come with trophy support or other bells and whistles that PS Plus Premium games sometimes enjoy, so fans will have to stay tuned on that front.
Of course, even if Battle Engine Aquila is added without trophies, that doesn't rule out the possibility of the feature being added down the line. In fact, Up just received trophy support despite being added to the PS Plus Premium service nearly two years ago.
