The Last of Us Part 1, a new addition to the PS Plus Game Catalog, has been experiencing an influx of players on PS5 since rolling out on the service last month. Being the remake of 2013's The Last of Us, it features upgraded graphics, gameplay enhancements, and more accessibility options.

With games ranging from AAA releases like Assassin's Creed Valhalla to indie gems like Animal Well, there is a good variety of options in the Game Catalog for Extra and Premium tier subscribers to choose from. On top of that, the list is refreshed often, ensuring players always have something new to check out. One of PS Plus Game Catalog's latest arrivals, The Last of Us Part 1, is bringing more and more players by the day since going free for subscribers of the two aforementioned PS Plus tiers.

The Last of Us Part 1 is thriving with a 1225% boost in PS5 players since joining PS Plus's Game Catalog on September 26, as per True Trophies (via GameInsights). With such an impressive debut, the action-adventure game became the third-biggest debut on PS Plus Extra in 2024 and the ninth-biggest title ever to roll out for the subscription tier. The report states that these numbers were drawn from the gameplay data of over 3.1 million active PSN accounts.

The Last of Us Part 1 Soars in Popularity on PS Plus Extra

Thanks to the immensely positive response to The Last of Us Part 1's addition, the post-apocalyptic game is already among the top three biggest launches on the service this year. The list is led by Dave the Diver, which sits at number one, and includes other major titles like Remnant 2 (number five) and Red Dead Redemption 2 (number six). On the list of biggest Game Catalog titles ever, the remake follows well-known games like Stray (number one), Grand Theft Auto 5 (number two), and Sea of Stars (number six). Besides The Last of Us Part 1, there's another new Game Catalog title, The Plucky Squire, that is quickly gaining popularity. The adventure game hit the Game Catalog on the same day as it launched on September 17.

While certain new attractions arrived for PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers recently, there are some others that have left the Game Catalog for the time being, such as Horizon Forbidden West, Spiritfarer, and Marvel's Midnight Suns. Some other notable games, such as LittleBigPlanet 3, Dragon Quest Heroes, and The Evil Within are also scheduled to leave the Game Catalog in October. Whether there's any major inclusion to the list to replace the ones leaving soon remains to be seen.
